Like many others, I would find it helpful to learn how you are doing with fixing the problem with crashes. If you could have regular information posted on one of these sites, it might reduce the number of calls to your technicians.

Beta 7 did nothing but crash...now I load Beta 8 and nothing different. All this program does is crash. Any thoughts on fixing it? Your tech support claimed that Beta 8 would solve all my crash problems.

If you post your logs, as well as a more detailed description of what you did before the app crashed (in a new thread), we'll look into it right away.

Chris - there is a thread that describes exactly how to post your logs so as to assist the Logos team in fixing the issues (I don't work for Logos, but I'm just trying to help out here). http://community.logos.com/forums/t/6731.aspx
Also, I'd just like to say I know it's frustrating because you really want to use the software but remember this is still beta - not a final release. It's expected to have bugs including crashing so try to take it all with a grain of salt and bear with them: this product will be worth it in the end!

My apologies for for posting the log improperly. They said post a log, so that is what I did. I didn't realize that there was log posting protocol. I'll do my log research and re-post properly.
I understand that it is Beta and they are ironing out the kinks. There is a big difference between a bugging program that needs kinks ironed out and a program that I've haven't ever been able to use at all because it crashes within 60 seconds. None-the-less, I'll hang in there and let the geniuses at Logos do their thing. It doesn't help that Tech support promises Beta will solve all my problems and then it comes no where close to living up to such claims.
Thanks fellas.

Greetings Chris
To help with your Log researches you should look at the second item on the link that Tom posted to guide you.
It is actually numbered '6' but because it is so important it has been moved up the order.
When it was in its correct position some people were to impatient to read down that far and so never reached the bit about 'How to post report bugs' which I think, as it happens is the third post in this forum.
Once you have done the business with the logs you might try opening the program with the command key held down and 'start with a blank layout' selected. This might just get you started.
Best of luck with your bug squashing

It is interesting to me that tech support would be involved at all. They used to have nothing to do with Alpha/Beta releases.

Chris, this sounds like a bug that I had. I could get Logos to work by doing the following:
1. Launch Logos
2. Then (after the first bounce) hold down on the Command Key.
3. From the window that appeared with sign on information, I chose "Work Offline"
Try that and see if it will work for you. You can also try checking "Use Blank Layout" from the same window.
Remember to still post your logs, it helps the developers get to the bottom of these crashes.
Hope this workaround helps.

This is why we need logs. We had two bugs in Alpha 7 that, without looking at the logs, appeared to the user with seemingly identical symptoms. For one of them, what you suggest was a valid workaround. For the other, there remains no known workaround.Levi D. said:Chris, this sounds like a bug that I had. Chris - I know what you're saying and I'm sorry if I came off as accosting you. I was just trying to put the best construction on things (as frustrating as the issues may be). All that is to say - I feel your pain and I'm trying to be patient too.
I have been having what sounds to be the same problems. Logos is now unusable on my Mac. Every time I launch, it crashes after about 60 seconds. I have re-downloaded the latest build, done the CMD+click and chosen work offline and use blank layout, all to no avail. I have already posted my log in a different thread but thought I'd add my 2 cents in here.

In B8, the whole CMD, work off line thing didn't work for me at all. But the following did. And is allowing me to use B8 with NO crashes whatsoever. It went from being completely unstable to perfectly stable, at least for what I have doing on it. Give it a try. I don't know if it gives any indications to the technicians about what the problem might. But here it is:
1) When B8 would start up, the home screen would appear and the
spinning fan would appear and just keep spinning. Nothing would happen.2)I could navigate away and load layouts or open books, bla bla bla... but eventually it would crash.
3) I tried deleting the plist, the preferences, everything I could
think of, thinking maybe these files got corrupt. But that wasn't it
either.4) Finally, I fired it up and while it was loading, I clicked on the left bottom where it says "Customize".
5) Then in the bottom box, under "Content" I unchecked EVERYTHING.
6) The program is stable again. It doesn't crash. I have been using it for the last 10 minutes and no crashes.
I don't know if this helps at all... either those who are trying to
use it or those who are trying to fix it. But this is what I discovered
by trial and error. Hope it helps.0 -
Chris,
If you have already posted you log you may want to edit the first one and delete it from the post. That way we wont have to scroll down through the entire thing to read other posts. Just a thought. I am interested in any solutions because I have had similar problems in the past. Although this version has been much better for me. Good luck. and don't give up, it will be well worth it.

Nicholas,
This is very helpful information. Does the problem reappear if one item is checked? None of the developers have been able to reproduce this so would you mind enabling each item one by one and seeing then the app crashes.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I sure will, but I am running out right now. When I get home, I will do just that and re-post. I'm glad this is useful information.

Ok, I had a few minutes. The program did the following.
1. I checked the first box, "Devotionals" and it did not crash.
2. Then I checked the second box, "Excerpts". So, both "Devotionals" and "Excerpts" were checked at the same time and it did crash. See Archive_01.zip for that report.
3. I then unchecked "Excerpts" and checked "Logos Blog". No crash.
4. I then checked "Logos Community Pricing". No crash.
5. After this, I checked "Logos News". No crash.
6. After this, I checked "Logos Prepubs". No crash.
7. Then I checked "My Logos Messages". No crash.
8. I then shut the whole program down and restarted it with everything checked by "Excerpts". Then I opened up a couple of resources, navigated through the ESV. And, no crash (at least not yet).
So, as far as I can tell, the one that is making it crash is "Excerpts" and as long as I leave it unchecked, the program is stable.
Hope this helps. Yours, Nick

I was having the same problem as Nicholas and I did the same thing (unchecked the Excerpts under customize) and I was finally able to launch Logos.

Yeah, I just bought this today and was having the same problem - so glad there was a solution.
Oh, and hi Russ. Fancy seeing you here...

Advanced prioritization, very nice.

I did the same thing and it appears that I can at least access my library and do some research in preparation for next Sunday. I hope that this will enable the Logos people to come up with a real resolution of the crashing issue. Thanks for sharing your insights with the rest of us who are less adept with computers.

Knowing that it is crashing loading Excerpts on the Home Page definitely narrows the scope of the bug. I'm pretty certain we can track it down now.
