Bible Word Search

In The Jewish New Testament I generated a bible word study for "outsiders" (Heb 13:2). I clicked on greek words and this brought up a pie chart with "outsiders" in the middle surrounded by multiple greek words with short definitions. I then clicked on the term "outsiders" in the middle bringing up a list of references arranged by the multiple greek words in the pie chart. The list generated did not include Hebrews 13:2 so I could not determine which greek word for "outsiders" was used in this translation. This doesn"t seem right.

Hi Greg - and welcome.

I don't have the Jewish New Testament but looking at NA27 and a couple of reverse interlinears it appears that the word presented as "outsiders" or "strangers" does not appear discretely in the Greek but that the word "φιλοξενίας" meaning "hospitality" can have the force of "hospitality to strangers". So the word for outsiders is not there, hence it doesn't appear in the BWS.

Does this make sense?

You will notice that the Greek Words section is based on ESV (or another Reverse Interlinear) and the word "outsiders" does not occur in Heb 13:2 - the ESV and some other RI's use "strangers". The Jewish NT is not an RI so you cannot know what Greek word it used for "outsiders" but it is safe to assume it is φιλοξενίας (lemma = φιλοξενία) as used in the RI's.

The advantage of an RI is that you can see that ESV actually translates it as "hospitality to strangers".
