I am looking to back up non-Logos files. Is there anything I need to know so that there is no conflict between Logos online back up and either Mozy or Carbonite? Does it also backup Logos 4 files also? I am not internet savvy.
Thanks,
Christine
Logos 4 stores it's information in the c:\users\%username%\AppData\Local\Logos4\ directory.
If you wish to back that directory up with Carbonite/mozy you should be fine. IOW no conflict that I can imagine. The downside to such a plan is that you would have to know what you were doing to restore a backup (I think).
I do not currently use either one of those solutions, but do have a complete disk backup including L4 at all times. (I'm a backup freak).
As I understand it Carbonite and Mozy will only backup what you tell them to backup, that is what directories you tell them to backup will be backed up.
Christine,
I don't have either piece of software so no first-hand experience. In this thread Melissa Snyder mentions that sometimes Carbonite could be the source of Logos 4 problems: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/18852/143419.aspx
I use Mozy and haven't had any issues in regard to Logos 4.
By default, it won't backup any of your Logos 4 files, but you can choose to have it do that. But given that Logos already backs up our stuff, I don't use Mozy to backup any of my Logos stuff.
One of our MVPs (Kevin Becker) uses Mozy (or did last Fall), so I suspect that creates no problems. See: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/5070/129567.aspx
I'm cheap so I only use the free version for my Word, PDF files etc. I would burn up my entire file space if I used it on Logos files.
Thank you all for your input. I had to leave town unexpectedly and have just returned. (I didnt' have internet access) I appreciate so much your help. Christine
I tried Mozy and it was very slow for me on a fairly fast 10MB/sec cable internet connection. However, DropBox is now my chosen solution. It is very fast and has access from any browser and apps for may mobile devices too. You get 2 GB free and can also add 250MB by doing some simple things that are painless.
I use Mozy particularly because there are no storage limits, which basically gives me an offsite backup of all of my essential data (and music). I use Dropbox for some stuff though.
I also back up to an external hard drive... I'm backup crazy!
Unlimited is great if you need more than 2.25 GB but free and faster is better if you don't.
I've been able to bump up my dropbox to 3.5GB for free by issuing some referrals that others have picked up on. But I only use it for my documents, not for L4.
I use Mozy to backup my entire drive without any issues.
I've used Mozy for a little over a year. I've noticed no Logos-related issues. The one caveat I have noticed is Mozy only keeps files you changed or deleted for one month. If you've lost something, don't wait around to try and find it!
I use Carbonite and do not have any problems or conflicts with Logos4.
I use Carbonite, Win 7 64-bit, and Logos 4 on a Tablet PC. I don't have "problems or conflicts" with L4 and Carbonite, but I have found that turning Carbonite off makes a noticeable difference in L4's performance for the better.
As mentioned above, since Logos backs up our stuff, there isn't the need for something like Carbonite. if Carbonite does not affect your performance, I'm sure it's safe to keep it backing up your stuff. But pause it for an hour and see if your performance improves. If that's the case, I'm sure you will find it more profitable to tell Carbonite not to back up L4.
BTW, Carbonite DID back up L4 by default on my installation.
