Is this part of NICOT and NICNT?
That would be the version prior to the volume that is now in the series. I believe this one makes four of those volumes. I am especially pleased to see James & John by Alexander Ross.
why would you want both?
F.F. Bruce is a highly regarded writer who hasn't written in the last 20 years due to his death in 1990. His writing is worth owning and I'm sure he'd still be sought after for his comentary contributions if he were still here.
Sometimes commentaries that are replaced in series are still valuable. Sometimes they're not. Carson's commentary survey says the following about the ones just posted:
On the other hand, Romans by Murray (which is hopefully going to turn up on prepub soon) is really rather good.
Do note that Carson is not known for the generosity of his comments in the survey. He (rightly, I think) tends to help the reader to decide the few best commentaries on each book, for each type of reader (academic, pastor, lay). Personally, I'd buy Hughes and Ross on the strength of those comments. Average to Carson is good enough for me. I'll pass on the two others.

Agreed. It appears in this case that Simpson wrote Ephesians, and Bruce wrote Colossians. But if you have NICNT you already have a revision of Bruce on Colossians, so in that case it's only worth buying for Simpson. (And in the revision, Bruce says that his first one wasn't very good - he was 'singularly unequipped' to write it, much more so than he realised at the time!)
Maybe even to EEC
Philip Hughes (2 Corinthians) provides thoughtful and usually reliable comments but lacks verve and power.
Since Hughes, is an Aussie I'll have to show him support.
There's also a commentary by Hughes on Hebrew on offer as well. http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/7463

Thanks for the analysis.
Gutted! I've just bought the dead tree version of that! But thanks for spotting it!
Mark you've got such good information! I would have never known that.
Keep an eye on Prepub Page.....
Morris is now up.....http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/7464 on 1 & 2 Thess....
Now that's worth having. It's supposed to be even better than his TNTC.
Does that make 8 pre-pubs added to the list just today? (Sept. 8) [:O]
will there be 9 tomorrow and 10 the next day, etc.?!!! [:P]

Has your theory been blown Paul ? Tenny on John has now been added http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/7466
Count again Andrew, I still think there's 8 for today. I would love to be wrong though!
I didn't ,that's why I asked you I just noted Tenny but didn't know if was there before or after your count.... [6]
So, let me get this strait:
You folks are saying the NICOT/NT is a complete set when you buy it, but these are older volumes that have been replaced by those in the NIC currently. When you prepub these volumes, you are basically getting two Johns, or two Ephesians, or two of whatever in your NIC. Is that right?

Yes, basically Wilson, when you buy the complete set you get all the current volumes. Some of the current volumes replaced some of th original titles in the set. In response to user requests, the non-current older volumes are now being made available as separate stand-alone opt-in pre-pub choices. You choose if you want them all, your favourites, or none of them.
I may also add that I used to look at commentaries by the set they were in. It was an all or nothing deal for me meaning I would want the whole set or pass it up completely. However, now I see while its good to familiarize the over arching characterizations and purpose of each commentary series, each individual author should be noted for the individual books they write for any series. This is what can make previous books in a commentary series worth owning.
Sadly, a Biblical commentary series that nails every book of the Bible does not exist.
Very helpful thread. Thank you Mark and others for all the insights. I tend to just order anything that has NICOT/NICNT label, but I need to purge my list [:)]
Mark,
thanks for the explanation....you are a smart cookie...
Also I'm glad that someone pointed out the commentary by Leon Morris....I hit the preorder button with fervor!
I'm about to start preaching through Romans - I could really use the Murray book. Now.
And how about Ridderbos on Galatians?
