Determing distances between places

Hold down the Ctrl key and click on point A; while still holding the Ctrl key, drag the mouse to point B, and you'll see the distance from A to B.

It only works on certain types of maps, unfortunately. It won't work on maps that have come from one of your books, only Logos' own maps. If the book the map is from is listed under it's heading, it won't work, and you'll have to choose a different map (they're usually listed on the left of the choices).

Also, it doesn't work on the old Logos maps -- the brighter primary-colored lower resolution ones, like this:

It only works on the new ones designed especially for L4 -- the pastel-colored higher resolutions ones, like this:

If you're not sure which kind you're looking at, check to see whether there are Google Maps lat./long. coordinates in the upper right corner in Biblical Places -- that will be an indication you're dealing with one of the new L4 maps:

And perhaps it goes without saying that this feature only works in Biblical Places, not on maps you find as images within other resources, as Mark explained.

Logos Deluxe Maps are the older style maps that this won't work with that Rosie mentioned in her posts... they've been around since well for a long time so they are old faithfuls that you tend to use reach for , but Maps in Biblical Place are the new Deluxe Maps.

You also can't zoom in on the old style maps but the new maps are zoomable, and as you zoom in you'll see more detail. This is a close-up of that last one I showed, after I've clicked on "Actual Size":

 You can use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in/out or if you don't have one of those, you can use Ctrl+Minus and Ctrl-Plus (the =/+ key if you don't have a numeric keypad, without holding down Shift, as I've finally learned!)

Hi Steve,I made a quick video demonstrating the feature and highlighted the point that you need to hold down CTRL key first before pressing you mouse button.  If you press your mouse button first, you are invoking the function to move the map about on your screen.   I also showed in the video how you can tell which maps will allow you to measure distances and which ones don't. 

Hope this clarifies things more you.  I found it a little bit tricky when first learning to use this feature.

Steven - did you ever figure this out? I cannot get this to work on my MacBook using an apple mouse. Control + click opens the standard contextual menu. If I do it on a city or place name it gives my the popup to choose Biblical Places or one of my dictionaries. If I control + click (or right click) on a "blank" area of the map, it gives me the standard "Copy/Save As/Print/Send to KeyNote" options. 

And... I am using the proper maps with coordinates in upper right, etc.

I am using 4.0a SR-1

I sure thought I had tried the command/click combination. In fact, I know I tried many combinations of modifier keys + click. But obviously, somehow I didn't.

Command + click works. And now I am in geographical bliss...

Observation: The new ambidextrous Logos is a wonderful blessing. But sometimes even blessings generate new challenges. The issue we have now is that we must be "bi-lingual" in English. When someone switches from English to Spanish, that's easy for me. But with the current (unpredictable) mix of Mac-speak and Windows-speak in Logos tutorials etc., it sometimes get's confusing! (Or at least, I get confused. Maybe it's just me!)

BTW: Steven, if command/click doesn't work for you then something else very weird is going on.

Hello all,

I ran into this with Logos 9 and the new maps. If the setting for the map is "TERRAIN" is will not work... You must set the map to "FLAT" and the measure function works great.
