Phantom Apps
When I use LDLS 4.0 I find a number of icons for unknown applications which have nothing in them. They disappear when I close 4.0. A moment ago I must have had 6 of these. What is happening?

Where are the icons George?
On your shortcut bar? desktop? start menu? Task bar?

No, not in the taskbar. Desktop? I never see my desktop except on certain rare occassions. Even on the rare occassion when my desktop does appear you won't find an icon there since I hide all icons. I only show the icons periodically to delete them. They appear in the pop-up menu that appears when you do an <alt-tab> to switch applications. After closing LDLS 4.0 I no longer had these 6 icons. After reopening it I now have 1 phantom icon.

Ah, apparently L4 (or something) is creating processes which may or maynot have a window. as you alt+Tab through them do they reveal a name or anything? That may tell you what is creating them.
IMHO you've discovered a bug if they come up as Logos 4.

No name given. I do think it's a bug.

New info on the problem -- the phantom apps seem to be created when reading mode is entered.

I see one phantom app, after reading mode in L4. In Vista there is an L4 program icon associated with the app. Trying to activate the app through the ALT-TAB sequence doesn't seem to do anything, though it does take away the focus from the current application.
The phantom app remains after exiting reading mode, and does not appear in Task Manager, nor in the Aero "Flip 3D" program list.

I suspect it's the overlay that fades in and out slowly that says Press F11 again to exit reading mode.
IN win7 if I'm fast I can see the message in the ALT+tab interface, where it also fades out.
The overlay isn't closing after reading mode is exited.

That's pretty much the conclusion I had reached. When I had the 6 phantom apps I had tried multiple times to get it to go into reading mode but the resource didn't expand to fill the frame.

Thanks George; I was able to reproduce this and have reported it. ~ Melissa
Update: Looks like this may be fixed in Beta 6.
