It is now past 60%. There seems to have been a sudden burst of enthusiasm. Come on Logos, time to put this one on the Blog.
So how many volumes of EEC will be released before Barnes goes Gold ?
Andrew I just barely averted snorting coffee all over my laptop. Please don't do that. [:p]

When will you learn. Do not drink coffee while reading the Logos Forums? Such practices are harmful to the health of your keyboard. [8-|]

Barnes is at 75%!!
I'm curious to know if all those who are at $25 and $20 upped their order to $30 where we'd be.
Maybe talking more about Hastings ? I'd like to find out for sure!
Anybody up for a Barnes Raising ?
I upped my bid to $35--still ~ $2/book.
OK folks, I did the best I could. It's up to you now.
Awesome. I be this does it.

I've been in on Barnes for almost as long as it's been in CP. Hopefully Thomas' blog will end my purchase anxiety. BTW Thomas, I thought you gave an excellent discription of the pros/cons of Barnes. He can be wordy, but sometimes you need that to help get the point across. Sometimes you (in the generic sense) totally disagree with him, but he makes you dig to "prove" why you disagree with him.
Started this thread on July 15, and Barnes does not seem to have moved as yet.
See Thomas' support in the Blog:

It did move up from about 60% to about 75% since you started this thread. But now that Thomas has blogged about it, it should go up even more. I think I've noticed a perceptible move up to about 76 or 77% just today.
I've been grabbing screenshots every now and then of Barne's progress:
Here is one from August 14, one month ago:
And this is today, Sept. 14th:
Hopefully Thomas' excellent blog will push Barnes over the hill and it will pick up speed!

Great job, Thomas.
When everbody raise their bids with 5 dollar or more, wouldn't that get Barnes out...?!
It will be a strange and empty feeling without Barnes on the Community Pricing page...but i am sure it will be replaced with another interesting title. Let's get Barnes out!
Just raised my bid!
I believe the old rusty cogs that are Barnes have come alive again! I say we ride this wave all the way home. If anyone has an interesting or explanatory comment to add on the Facebook wall please comment. Does anyone think we could beat the L4 Mac release?

And I thought I was going to have to eat crow on this... we only have 15 days! (+ or - 1)
I am already in $75, Raising my bid will not help - only if those who have bid less than $35 were to raise their bids to $35 would the price jump. But I expect if there were those bid less than $30 raised their bid to $30, we would see even more progress.
Raising your bids to more than $30 isn't going to help unless you were in at less than $30 before. Every bid at more than $30 only counts for one bid at $30 even if you bid $100. Of course, if there were a massive amount if bids at $35 or more that could theoretically make it be produced for $35 but looking at the chart, that's not going to happen.
Am I the only one here who is weary of the Barnes raisers? Guys (and gals) you have made a loud noise about poor Pastor Barnes and his work. He's been languishing for years. Banging the drum hasn't worked. I would not suggest louder banging.
I suspect that most of those who would want Barnes have it in another form and don't want to pay even $30 for it. But who really knows? All we know is this CP is dead in the water.
I know I have beat the drum myself for other CP resources, but I do think this one has really been exposed unlike dozens of other CP offers. It just isn't getting traction as they say. Maybe it is time to rest a bit. Most folks aren't going to drop their bids if you back off for a few months.
I would like all of you to have Rev. Barnes, but I think you've given it your best shot for now, so maybe it is time to back off. Please?

Yes?

From your screen shots I take it you raised your bid in that time period.... [:)]

Maybe some cheerleading will work.

I would be happy if it gained interest at the same rate as this thread. [H]
Today's blog post, a counter point to Thomas Black, by Mark A. Smith: "Time for a Barnes Razing?"
[:O] [;)]
OH NO.
This could cause an international incident. You did hear about that other radical pastor in FL. who planned a book burning?
But he backed off that and chose the higher road. I assume that Dan will also.
Well, perhaps if an Ardent Barnes Supporter had written the post there would have been more progress. Perhaps it's expecting more than one day can bring, but it appears that Barnes has made no significant progress if any.

alas, my sense of humor cannot go much higher. [:P]

If this is the apex of his humor, Think what the depths might produce. Does Snidely Whiplash come to mind?
SOMETIMES, no matter how hard you try you can't quite reach your desire, things just stall. Time for a "Stalled and Waiting for a Miracle" second level tier for CP.

There's nothing wrong with your sense of humour. It's just like mine![:D]

This is a classic case of a poor marketing strategy. A company who can sell a non-existent, unproven, prototype of a commentary to it's highly educated clientèle for $700 US, should be able to promote a highly acclaimed, tried and tested Christian classic for $30 US...If they really wanted to.
Disagree.
This is a classic case of using two different marketing strategies. The new commentary set is something Logos has put money up front for. It will likely have a high profit margin but not a lot of volume in terms of sales because of the price and limited audience.
The Barnes thing is "we will do it if enough people want it." Remember on community pricing, they are looking to cover costs. Anything after that is mostly profit, since in this case it is PD material. It will also likely be a low-volume title, as it is older. If it gets published, I could see it being included in a collection in the future.
Another way to put it is this: Logos has a very vested interest in marketing the new commentary because if they don't do it properly, they will lose lots of money that has already been spent. They have limited interest in Barnes; they don't really care too much one way or the other if it gets done or not. That is speaking from a business perspective. I am sure there are many Logos employees that would like to have Barnes, but opinions and wants do not keep a business alive and growing. Cash flow does.
Jerry
Well said Jerry
Cash flow does.
By all appearances the cash flow to produce Barnes isn't there.
It seems that the $30 price point that it just takes soooo many users to cover the costs. If would be interesting to know if everyone increased their bid by ten $10 if we would send it over the top and then the last minute rush would take this back down to $30 or less anyhow.
Anyhow, it has moved a bit since your blog... we'll just have to wait I guess for the last 23% for the next couple of years. Never mind, Barnes makes a great landmark on the Logos website anyhow!
Problem is, that $30 point on the graph is already counting all the people who have bid higher than 30. So if you want to try to raise the "sweet spot" to $40, the only people raising their bid by $10 who would affect the position of the dot at $40 would be those people who currrently have bid between $30 and $40. Those of us who've already bid more than $40 could raise our bid all we want and it wouldn't budge the dot at $40 any further. Since the dot at $30 is almost twice as high as the dot at $40, I don't think the numbers are there to cover it at $40 either, unfortunately.
It's the under 30 crowd who would have the most impact. Bumping bids from $25 to $30 would make a significant difference.
It's the under 30 crowd who would have the most impact.
Indeed the Youth could have so much impact if only they increased their commitment [;)]

OK, how about a new strategy. What if everyone bids their age? What's the average age of Logos users? Logos forum users? People who have an interest in Barnes Notes? The latter group probably averages the highest number, due to Barnes being a relic from a bygone era well-loved classic.
What if everyone bids their age?
As long as your age is younger than your current bid, my age is nowhere near my current bid .... I'll up the challenge and say bid double your age (and if you go off the scale, then just bid max price)
Its those no good kids! I'll tell you what! Penny Pinchin' on Barnes gets us nowhere... now here? ...No where! Whatever.
To quote a movie from my childhood (American Tale)
"WEWESE THE SECWET WEAPON!"
*thats the que for all the CP lurkers to jump in*
bid double your age (and if you go off the scale, then just bid max price)
I did that months ago.
Is that chronological or biological age? Or is it the age you feel today?
Personally, I've been in at $50 for ages.
BTW as Barnes has been propping up the CP page for years, what will happen if it ever goes live in pre-pub? Will the rest of the CP page just collapse?
Will the rest of the CP page just collapse?
Or maybe leave room for more offerings?
