I didn't download anything last week-I had a computer problem that lasted days until it got fixed and then I wanted nothing to do with computers.  So, I don't know the right sequence for downloading Beta 5 + any and all resource downloads.  Although I have Beta 3, I don't think I need to download Beta 4; but I read that there will be resources to download late today.  I am not in a hurry but want to be wise with these downloads and indexing.  Please advise.  Thanks.

The program will decide what to do. You just need to open it while connected to the internet or type update now into the command box and it will do the rest. Updates and new resources seem to be coming fast and furious so the it all depends on how much time you have to index your resources. Feel free to start installing and then leave it on overnight to index and you will probably be ready to go in the morning.

    Tom,

Thanks for responding.  I do not trust technology enough to just let things run and not know what it is doing.  I have Windows Update, for instance, set to notify me of updates.  Then, I choose to get a box which lists the updates and then I choose which updates to install and when.  When they are downloading, I know and when they are done downloading and installing, I know.

The only way I would leave my computer on all night is if my modem was unplugged.  Leaving it connected to the internet for eight hours makes it vulnerable even if I have all the kinds of protection I should have, i.e. antivirus etc.  An IT professional told me "you are always vulnerable".  So if can index without an internet connection, then overnight will work.

My experience with Beta 5 on my laptop would allow me to share your skepticism!

But if you have Beta 3 and not received  any updates in between then be prepared for 4.0 GB max download. My experience was 3.1 GB - 1.9 GB for Beta 4 and 1.2 GB for Beta 5. Then there is 45 MB for the Beta 5 software.

I saw your later post where it looks like you have Beta 5, so disregard this!!

    Dave,

I learned to be skeptical when I was online and not downloading anything or even at a website but answering an email and my screen changed and a virus was attacking my system.  I had to be right there to deal with it immediately.  So, I don't and won't trust technology because it has proven to me to be untrustworthy.  To make things easier for people with automatic upgrades, downloads, etc. can sound good and work well until something goes wrong.  Then, the user is stuck with the problem not the software company.

It is because I so value Logos Bible software that I choose to be informed and aware of what is going on in my system.  And I do not want to lose any control that can potentially compromise my system.  Automatic does not equal safe; easy, yes.
