Unable to empty Trash after each L4 for Mac Update

Hi,

I am not sure if it is only me or my laptop. I noticed for the last few beta releases to the last RC, I have the same problem; unable to empty Trash when there is a old copy of L4 in the Trash after an update exercise.

Can some one help to confirm, if it is the case.

Yes I have done all the disk and permission repairs using Diskworrier, before I try to do the normal trash, even tried secure trashing.

I use TrashIt (Free Apps) to trash the discarded L4 copy from the trash.

Suspect laptop configuration - have not used Diskworrier nor Trashit.

Sometimes, typos can yield amusing results. [:D] You did mean Disk Warrior, did you not?

I have experienced this a couple of times in the past. When it happens, it seems that the installer did not completely quit the previous copy. Since then, I have adopted the policy of quitting the old copy of L4 prior to clicking the install button. Since then, I have not had the problem you describe.

Yes, the new version was downloaded by itself, I will follow your approach for the next Update.

... shouldn't we expect that Logos does the necessary house keeping of installing new version of logos4 over an old version. Is it fair to consider this a bug?

It probably is a bug. I haven't bothered to report it as such. Perhaps I will remember to do so if it happens again.

Could you list the steps to take in order to get a Logos 4 application file in the trash that disallows the emptying of the trash? I've done a fair amount of replacing the application file and have never run into this so I'm not sure how to reproduce. Is Logos4 open when you are trying to delete the old app? The application shouldn't need to be deleted normally, all that you should need to do is copy the new file over the old file thus replacing it. Have you looked at KS4J's link he posted?

This happens to me from time to time as well. I've come to normally just expect it and am more surprised when it doesn't happen. It looks like a database file remains in use even after the older version is moved to the trash, so the trash cannot be emptied until I reboot the computer or kill any running Logos processes. If I see it again I'll be sure to note exactly what it says cannot be emptied.

This happens to me when I allow the Installer to operate with L4 running. When I click "Install and Relaunch", the Installer does not always quit the older copy.

I don't know if this will help, but if there's an update going on just avoid doing anything on Logos until it's done. It's only a few minutes. This would make it easier for Logos to shut down for the process.

I will note the detail steps the next time. I recalled, I just start Logos 4 for Mac, I than noticed down loading, followed by the Install and relaunch pop up, I click OK like any normal user would do. After that I observe that the trash cannot be empty.
