Logos4 will not install McGee library

I recently obtained a copy of the J. Vernon McGee Electronic Bible Study Library. It is actually a Logos2 disk, but it installed into Logos3 as well, and I synchronised licenses. I am able to view the books on www.biblia.com and library.logos.com, so the Logos servers know that I own the book. However, there is no way that I can get it to install in Logos4. I have tried all the obvious things: update now, update resources, and scan commands; closing and reopening Logos4; contacting Customer Service; making sure I have the most recent version of Logos4 and that all the options are correctly set. But the McGee books just won't download. When I do the update resources command with logging turned on, part of the file includes:

The first two lines are two resources that I own, the others are all the books in the McGee library. So Logos4 knows that I should have the resource, knows that I don't have the resource, but still will not download and install it.

Any ideas?

That log shows that the indexer downloaded those files last time you ran Logos. In theory, next time you run Logos they should be installed. So can you re-load Logos, and if that doesn't happen, re-send updated versions of the logs.

There is no change. I have in fact restarted Logos4 at least 20 times since I have tried to install the resources, but the situation is always the same. Anyway, the new log files are here.

I forgot to mention that I have Logos4 installed on two computers, a desktop and a laptop. Neither of them want to install the resources. So it is unlikely to be a problem with the computer, but rather with my account or with the McGee books.

The indexer log seems to suggest the files have already been downloaded, but for some reason it's not doing anything with them.

Can you take a look in the following folder and tell me what's there:

C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\UpdateManager\Resources

Can you also attach the file C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\UpdateManager\Updates.db (you'll need to zip it). Thanks.

That file demonstrates that Logos knows about the updates, but hasn't installed them yet (which we suspected already, but it's nice to get confirmation).

Can you look to see if there are any files in the following folder:

C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\ResourceManager\Downloaded

and upload C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\DownloadManager

C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\ResourceManager\Downloaded does in fact contain all the downloaded files - there are 15 directories, each with a lbxlls file with the names of the books in the McGee library.

C:\Users\richard\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\dka0tw4u.xue\DownloadManager contains two files:

DownloadManager.db-journal which has 0 bytes

DownloadManager.db which I have attached.

Two things to try quickly - their easy, but I don't think they'll will work.

Exit Logos
Move those lbxlls files out of their folders, and put them in another single folder on the desktop. Delete the empty folders.
Load Logos and see if it triggers a download/install. If it does, problem solved. But I suspect it will do the download again, but not the install.
So try typing the command scan c:\path.to\folder\on\desktop in the command bar. Apart from the menu confirming the action, nothing will happen.
Exit Logos, the load it.
See if it adds the resources.

If it still doesn't work (and the odds are against it), there's one last thing to try, which I'll let you know when you report back.

(Sorry for all these steps, but there's a few different causes and we have to eliminate each one before moving to the next.)

Moving those files did not trigger a download or install, not even after a update resources command.

After restarting Logos, the program did some scanning (there was the message "Preparing Library Step 1"), but no new resources were added.

I have half fixed the problem. On the weekend my desktop computer died, and I had to buy a new one. After installing Logos4, and copying all my existing resources to the new computer, Logos4 downloaded 38Mb in an update (I presume the McGee books), and now they are visible on my new desktop computer. Even after syncs and updates, they still do not show up in my laptop computer. Buying a new laptop would probably be a solution, but it would be hard to justify...

Try scanning the resources from the Desktop's \Resources folder eg. copy to removable drive and then issue the scan drive:\folder command on the laptop.

It had the same effect as the other times I have used the scan command: when Logos reboots it shows Step 1 of 3 of preparing the library, but nothing new is installed, and the books are still not present in Logos.

Sorry, Richard for not replying earlier. The next thing to try is to delete all of the discovered.db and identified.db files in the Logos folder (there'll be several of them scattered around various sub-folders). This files contain a list of all the files that Logos has discovered in the past, and identified as being needed now.

I deleted 17 pairs of these files, in the various sub-folders of the ResourceManager folder. When I rebooted Logos, it didn't try to download anything and the update resources command did not find anything.

I think at this point that the best thing to do is to give up, say it is an unresolved problem with Logos, then copy the existing resources in another folder, uninstall Logos and install it again, and copy back the resources. At least the install and copy the resources worked on the new computer, it installed the McGee resources automatically.

I did reinstall Logos, and all my resources, including the McGee books, are now available. Thanks anyway for those who spent some time trying to work out the problem.

I suspect that the problem was caused by the bug described at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/23117.aspx since I had done that on the two computers that would not install the books. It looks like the update resources command gets mucked up in some way, so that it does not execute from the toolbar, and does not work well from the command line either.
