Wondering too...
I passed on it. I have a few volumes from that series, which are fine, but very specialist (usually lightly rewritten PhDs). This collection is one for the Old Testament scholar - which unfortunately doesn't describe me!
Thank you Mark.
Looking for any thoughts on this 19 volume collection. Priced at $299.95 in pre-pub (Suggested Retail Price $2244.38) and scheduled to be released on 10/06/10. Thank you in advance...Michael
I could go on all day about this collection. I only have a couple minutes online, so here is my first thought:This collection is not a grouping of 100+ year old, public domain titles. If you've read my other postings, you know I have nothing against public domain titles. I just want to stress many of these are of the latest scholarship. The individual book prices are prohibitive to the average reader. Buying them as a Pre-Pub collection allows you to save a bundle and read works you are unlikely to [The titles is blue are more than enough reason to get the whole collection]

The untimely release (for me, at least) means I may have to miss out....... [:'(] I am truly lamenting my commitment to upgrading my electrical panel and adding central heat this season. This fine collection ships 10/05.The Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/5732 ships 10/05.The Göttingen Septuagint http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/4951 ships early November along with the Works of Richard Baxter http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/4218 Please mourn with me as I miss out and I will rejoice with you as you are blessed to have these. I will try to give a few more details when time permits. Suffice it to say, If God blesses you to get these, you will enjoy this set for sure.
Thank you Matthew.
We'll look forward to any additional information you may provide.
Please mourn with me as I miss out and I will rejoice with you as you are blessed to have these.
I had the good fortune to not have more pre-pubs than I can afford this time around ... but only because I passed up some I'd love to have. So I'll claim to be mourning for you rather than myself. [:)][:(]

Mourning with you brother on these and some other Old Testament Collections that I am going to have to let pass.
My spirit is willing, but my chequebook is weak.
All the titles in the collection have a preview available in G00gle b00ks except this one: Scribes and Schools in Monarchic Judah:Here are a couple items of interest (to me) I thought I would share:Cult of Molek: A Reassessment This volume contains a comparison of Seventeenth Century Scholarship to Modern Scholarship. I find these comparisons fascinating. I always smile when I ponder, "Just how reliable is our present day scholarship?"Economic Keystones: The Weight System of the Kingdom of Judah (More about weights than you will ever need to know!)Gibeah: The Search for a Biblical City (A case study displaying a complete survey.)
Like a Bird in a Cage: The Invasion of Sennacherib in 701 BCE Start reading at page 46 of the preview "Chronoloy: A Skeleton Without Flesh? Sennacherib's Campaign as a Case-Study" This book easily takes the cake for being the most desirable read in the collection for my appetite.
Sociology of Pottery in Ancient Palestine: (Most people would be bored to death reading about pottery. But a fellow missionary kid in Japan uncovered pottery from the Jomon period while playing in our little town of Karuizawa. It now resides in a museum and I feel a kinship with the past just from proximity. Pottery is cool. So are arrowheads!)Understanding Dan: An Exegetical Study of a Biblical City, Tribe and Ancestor This one is vitaly important for OT Backgrounds. Can you answer whether or not the tribe of Dan was obedient to God's directives in the conquest of Canaan and the allotments of land? Archeologists shed new light on this one. A Word in Season: Essays in Honour of William McKane This one has a neat chapter called "A Prelude to the Samaritan Pentateuch of the Paris Polyglot Bible. Too bad the Preview on G00gle b00ks does not display that chapter!Ancient Conquest Accounts: A Study in Ancient Near Eastern and Biblical History Writing This one lists seven pages of sources! It is a nice presentation of individual historical accounts regarding the conquest and a melding of the sources to present a "synthesized" interpretation. I think it makes a wonderful example for students working on a historically based thesis.
Take a "look-see" of the 18 available previews on G00gle b00ks and get a feel for how valuable this might be when you are preaching through the Old Testament (if you do that type of thing) or when you just want some interesting reading by the fire this Winter. You do remember how cold it gets, don't you?
I took a gander at the currently cheapest price available on Am@zon for traditional paper copies of the titles. (One was only available in PDF format.) The prices vary wildly depending on the Seller's motivation to move their copy. I added up the lowest prices and got a total of $1295.06 (I could have slipped, so check it yourself [:D] .) Just remember NONE of these resources come with the Logos tagging and intergration into your library for lightning quick searches and recall. Logos Pre-Pub price is $299 http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/5725 The prices gleaned from Am@zon are not SMRP quotes, they are real free enterprise selling prices. Save $1000 now and have the power of Logos help you get the most from your new collection. Why should the Th.D./Ph.D.'s have all the good stuff? [:P]

Wow! Matthew, you have done a superb job...thank you again.
I came to a price of $398.05 if you paid the lowest price of $20.95 for each book in the series. Of course, all the other books are more than $20.95, so the pre-pub price looks incredible.
I appreciate the info from Google Books. I don't think to check this and now I will.
Blessings...Michael
It's tremendously good value even on a volume:$ basis. The fact that this collection contains cutting edge scholarship (some of these works were only published in the last three years), on critical issues by well respected scholars (Silberman, Grabbe, Loury, Wood, Auld, Davies, Mazar, Finkelstein, Dever, and Ben Tor, among others), makes it well worth purchasing.
Now you're all making me feel bad, after saying I was passing on it [:)]. But I've already got orders in for Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library (29 Vols.), Göttingen Septuagint (65 Vols.) and nine individual resources that are all being released in the next month, so I'm going to resist the temptation!
