Does anyone know of a logos resource that provides a way to determine the Greek equivalent of a Hebrew name of God and vice versa. At this point I'd be happy with a look up table that I could print out.
Thanks
Luther
I don't have a direct answer to your question, however, The Exhaustive Dictionary of Bible Names gives the names of God in the Old Testament and the links to your preferred Bible. Your could then cross reference those passages to the LXX.
Hey Luther,
I would search the Hebrew lemma in morphological search in "Septuagint with Logos Morphology" using the "Andersen-Forbes Hebrew Morphology" (You can export from analysis view to Excel) If you drag the column header "lemma" to the line that reads "Drag a column header here to group by that column" and then drag the column header "Reference" to the same spot, you should get a view that is close to the Dos Santos Concordance:
Note that you would need to run another search using the "Andersen-Forbes Aramaic Morphology" for the Aramaic sections of the OT.
If you want all deity names including foreign ones you should search all the Hebrew (or Aramaic) words tagged as divine using the following search: @N?D
Another thing you can do is a Bible Word Study on the Hebrew Lemma and set the translation tab to LXX. You have a ring that displays graphically the equivalents and if you click the Hebrew Lemmas in the middle of the ring you get below it a sort of a concordance sorted by the inflected form:
EDIT: see new wiki page Finding the Names of God in Greek & Hebrew
I used the Search tool to look for the Names of God and found a pretty extensive list in The Exhaustive Dictionary of Bible Names. You could then use tools in Logos4 to find the Greek equivalent.
This works well for Names of God which are compound names (Name which take more than one word to express). If you are not familiar with Sympathetic Highlighting see wiki page Sympathetic Highlighting.
For single names you could use the previous Post to use the Bible Word Study guide. Although i think it is easier to copy from the resources than the BWS guide.
You could also open the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia and turn on its Sympathetic Highlighting as well to see the Hebrew form of the word.
Thank you all so much. I hadn't considered using the septuagint as a tool for Hebrew/Greek cross-referencing. I am constantly learning on this forum.
Bless you all,
Here is a Word doc that i created today for the Names of God in Greek & Hebrew.
