Many errors, resets and problems when opening - very embarrasing

Greetings,

I have had two recent situations which have prompted me to delete the Logos iphone app because it is unusable.

The first was on a plane where I was talking with a person about church and they had a question about a specific passage.  I pulled out my trusty iphone in airplane mode and opened logos.  I had prepared for this flight by downloading 7 bibles and two commentaries.  I had 9 books downloaded for offline reading.  When I opened logos, it gave several errors about being unable to find the selected book.  I entered my text and tried to open a book, but it could find no books to open.  I went to the main library screen where my nine books were shown at the bottom and as I tapped on each, I was told they could not be opened.  Now, I am doing all this to try and witness to someone and it just fell flat and the moment was lost.

The second was at a pastor's meeting.  It was my first time at that meeting and I was asked to share a Scripture.  I had not brought my Bible because I had my trusty iphone with the logos app.  I said, "I would be glad to."  I opened the logos app and notices that there was no wifi or cell signal in the restaurant.  Not to worry, I had nine books downloaded.  After the airplane fiasco, I uninstalled the logos app and reinstalled it and redownloaded my nine books.  Anyway, I opened the logos app and after spinning the little wheel for 45 seconds, it reboot my phone.  Once again, embarrassed by logos, in front of pastors, no less.

Since the logos app will not work in a pinch, when I need it most, I have deleted it.  I have told logos this, and this is there response:

------------------------------------

Michael,

            Thank you for
your email. I apologize for the difficulties you have experienced with our app.
Our app is designed to work alongside our computer program, Logos 4. With the
purchase of Logos 4, the app provides access to resources in your library that
are available. While online, the app provides options to download resources for
offline useage. Without the purchase of Logos 4, the app provides access to
only the free resources available when online. I have included a link below for
additional information.

I don't get it.  This response does not address my concerns at all.  Can I use the logos app to simply look up and read a passage with no wifi or cell signal?  I believe not.  This app is clearly something else and I do not know what it is.  So, until it is rewritten into an app that allows me to actually read the Bible, I will use Olive tree.  Olive tree works 100% of the time because it does not have to connect to some license server, because all content is on the phone.

I hope they fix this soon and make it into an app that I can show off and, perhaps, get some sales for logos.

Finally, let me say that I have used the Logos PC program since version 2.  I love it, use it exclusively for my study and will never use anything else.  I tell all my friends about it and even hosted a Logos 4 sales event at my church.  My only complaint is with the app and how it is supported.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Michael

I think what the Logos rep is trying to say is that if you have a Logos 4 license and you are signed into your account on your iPhone, then that is when you can download a resource for offline use.  So the question would be, do you own a Logos 4 license?  If so, then you should be able to have resources available offline.  Please also remember that a resource is ready for offline use if there is a red dot with a white airplane symbol on the picture of the resource.

It is unfortunate that the witnessing experience didn't go well and that you were embarrassed in front of colleagues.  I can imagine it was embarrassing for you.   iPhones are a piece of technology, and of all things in the world technology is really the least dependent when compared to the "old-fashinoed" print, type, and page format of a book.  I am sure the Logos app and the iPhone will continue to improve.

I hope future witnessing encounters and meetings with pastors go better for you, and that the Spirit of God is able to move, even in spite of technology.

I'm also not a Logos rep, just a person trying to help.

Thanks, apparently you did not read my post.  Here are the FACTS again.

I own logos 4.  I have spent thousands of dollars over the years and enriched Logos.  I downloaded 9 books for offline use.

The situation was that there was no wi-fi or 3G available and the offline books could not be opened.  When logos thought there was 3G, and there was not because the signal was too weak, it just reset my device.

My biggest concern with this issue is that everyone, including Logos says that it works just fine and should have worked for me, and golly, I don;t know what to say.  Well, I know what to say...TEST YOUR SOFTWARE BEFORE YOU RELEASE IT!!!!

I can tell how upset you are about this.  There was some confusion on my
end, because the original email didn't specify whether or not a Logos 4
license was owned.  Since I'm not a Logos rep, I wasn't able to know
    this.  :-)

I don't know what is going on in your context or what life looks like for you, but I hope this can be a blessing for you today:

        24      The LORD bless you and keep you;
        25      the LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
26      the LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Michael, I'm sorry you had this bad experience. I'm also sorry that our CS rep did not understand your complaint.

Each release of the app gets hours of testing, both inside the company and by beta testers outside the company. This error has never come up in any of our testing. I've tried everything I can think of to trigger the error myself and have come up empty. This is a very frustrating problem for us as well.

We are in the middle of a significant rewrite of book display and offline books. We expect this will address the problem you and a couple others have experienced.

    Have you tried this:

Start where there is strong wi-fi and strong cell signal.  Download your books.  Without turning off the phone go where there is no wi-fi and no cell signal.  Open Logos and see what it does.  How long does it take to do anything?  Please try that and tell me if you ihpone works wonderfully, and then tell me where you got your iphone and I will go and get one there.

Michael, sorry you are having trouble using the free iPhone app.

I've done a little playing and came across a problem that might be similar to yours. Opened the Logos app, opened Calvin's Institutes, then went back to the library and set Institutes to read offline, switched back to the book, then did the double-tap on the iPhone Home button and switched to the iPhone settings, turned on Airplane mode, switched back to Logos using double-tap, the app then gave me errors when trying to read Institutes. What I then did was just to close Logos and open it again and the book loaded fine.
