A little underwhelmed by 4.2?

I keep hoping there's going to be more.

100% satisfied. I'm more concerned about having quality 2 years from now then having features 2 months from now. What Logos puts out, IMHO, is golden and I'd rather them concentrate on getting it right from the start then giving us something that ends up being a hodge podge of patches and frustration. 4.1 was a pretty big release with lots of new features so I would suspect things to start slowing down.

Must admit, I'd rather have a check box in the printing window to select and deselect columns. Very rarely will I want to print in page view.

I agree. As it's stands, it's more of a 4.1a. I'm therefore expecting (hoping?) one or two of the other missing features make it into the 4.2 release soon.

According to the Logos support page we are supposed to see vocabulary / word lists and video resources in the fourth quarter. This tells me that either 4.2 is going to be a very short beta cycle, maybe focusing on bugs and optimization, or they will roll out additional features during the course of the cycle. I am not sure what would be involved in getting the video resources, but it seems like the the word / vocabulary lists should not be too complex to code since the framework for that feature already exists in the program.

Then again, I'm a preacher not a programmer; so what do I know?

I'm sorry you are underwhelmed. We are working hard to add new features and fix bugs. However, there are a few reasons you won't see as many features in 4.2 as you saw in previous releases.

• We have most of the missing features done.
• The 6 interns we had for the summer have gone home.
• We want to address some of the 1400+ bugs and 800+ minor features in our bug tracking database.
• The team is smaller since some of them are working on the new product Bob mentions in http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24207/180562.aspx#180562.
• We don't want to hold paged view from the rest of the world until this release is packed full of features.
• We need a bit of a break after a year of pushing hard.

Why 4.2? Well, now that most of the missing features are done we've decided to move away from the letter releases when adding major new features (e.g. Paged View). That isn't to say we won't confuse you by releasing some feature in the future that you think is bigger than Paged View in a letter release or by simply being inconsistent.

I echo this sentiment in spades! I know how tough it is to be under impossible deadlines all of the time....and it's good to throttle back once in a while..

Is there any chance this little bit of code could stay in for the next beta?

Just think of all the confusion it would cause with bug reports, though. People reporting bugs in versions that haven't even been released yet, etc.

Anyway, I'm guessing it was just a bit of Photoshop sleight of hand, not actual code. Or if it was code, then Bradley what are you wasting time coding up jokes for when there are so many bugs and features to be working on... [;)]

I like it for this reason: efficient reading, without having to "page down" so frequently.  having 7-10 words on a line allows the eye more reading time and less "travel time" (from end of line to beginning of new one).  Under the old system, I pretty much had to increase the font size, and less words on a visible page was the result.  this way, the font can be smaller, more text is visible, AND because of the added visible text, set in parallel columns, I seem to have a better sense of context.

I love it too but the only "issue" i have with it is that I'm used to the old way of navigating...hitting the "down arrow" and scrolling....and in paged view sometimes that just changes the verse ref, but nothing actually happens to the page itself....it just changes the focus...

I love it too. My only issue with it is that I like to highlight while I'm reading, and if the sentence I want to highlight happens to span across a "page" break in paged view, I can't drag and scroll. But I did discover that you can drag out the selection to the end of the page, then hit PageDown and then Shift+Click where you want the selection to end, and it retains what was selected at the end of the previous page as part of the selection. Not quite as convenient, but satisfactory once you're used to it.

be sure to put that in the wiki (or new video tutorials . . . ) if Logos doesn't fix that. 

We don't really have a place for it yet in the wiki, so I've created a stub Paged View page and put that tip in it. Someone will have to write the Paged View wiki page before 4.2 ships. I will if I remember to get back to it. There's not much to it, just how to turn it on and off and how the columns resize when you change the panel width.
