A little underwhelmed by 4.2?Closed
I must confess to feeling a little underwhelmed by 4.2. Perhaps it's the record of recent releases that raises expectations to a certain level?
Apart from Page View (which is great by the way) there doesn't seem to be much to warrant a point release, and 4.2B2 is already bug fixes only.
Early days maybe, and still plenty to play with from earlier releases, but I'm curious as to what others think
Cheers
Richard

- We have most of the missing features done.
- The 6 interns we had for the summer have gone home.
- We want to address some of the 1400+ bugs and 800+ minor features in our bug tracking database.
- The team is smaller since some of them are working on the new product Bob mentions in http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24207/180562.aspx#180562.
- We don't want to hold paged view from the rest of the world until this release is packed full of features.
- We need a bit of a break after a year of pushing hard.

I must confess to feeling a little underwhelmed by 4.2.4.2 has perturbed me by having column view as the default for Print/Export, otherwise Paged View may have gone unnoticed
Must admit, I'd rather have a check box in the printing window to select and deselect columns. Very rarely will I want to print in page view.
I would love to see this bug in Syntax searching fixed

But alas I don't even seem to be able to get a reply <sigh>...

I didn't even know!

I agree. As it's stands, it's more of a 4.1a. I'm therefore expecting (hoping?) one or two of the other missing features make it into the 4.2 release soon.

In 4.1, some of the new features didn't make an appearance until later on in the beta cycle. I'm hoping that will be the case with 4.2 as well. Otherwise, yes, I think it was misnamed.

According to the Logos support page we are supposed to see vocabulary / word lists and video resources in the fourth quarter. This tells me that either 4.2 is going to be a very short beta cycle, maybe focusing on bugs and optimization, or they will roll out additional features during the course of the cycle. I am not sure what would be involved in getting the video resources, but it seems like the the word / vocabulary lists should not be too complex to code since the framework for that feature already exists in the program.
Then again, I'm a preacher not a programmer; so what do I know?

I'm sorry you are underwhelmed. We are working hard to add new features and fix bugs. However, there are a few reasons you won't see as many features in 4.2 as you saw in previous releases.
Why 4.2? Well, now that most of the missing features are done we've decided to move away from the letter releases when adding major new features (e.g. Paged View). That isn't to say we won't confuse you by releasing some feature in the future that you think is bigger than Paged View in a letter release or by simply being inconsistent.

Thanks for all your hard work this past year! I'm lovin the fruit of your work!

I echo this sentiment in spades! I know how tough it is to be under impossible deadlines all of the time....and it's good to throttle back once in a while..
Thank you and the rest of the Logos team for all of your sacrifices made during the L4 rollout.

thats right. Robert and I officially grant you 4 days of slacking. After your four days of slacking we will once again require your regular progress reports.
My, my...how gracious we are :-)

Thanks ... it really isn't a problem, or a whine of any kind - I haven't really explored a lot of what you have included so far to be honest - it's probably more a question about why it's 4.2 rather than, as others have suggested, 4.1a.
But your points more than explain the slowdown in new features.
Blessings

Thank you. I really appreciate all that info. Great job.

Page view in my mind (but that isn't all there is) is reason enough to warrant a release. Page view is a major addition.
I appreciate multiple small updates as they perfect features rather than storing them up and releasing them all together. THat is one of the benefits of the cloud connected program, it is easy to push incremental updates out.

I keep hoping there's going to be more.
Well, I guess that I'm ok with whatever is in the releases...I do love the page view but I recognize that there are other things to get accomplished....

100% satisfied. I'm more concerned about having quality 2 years from now then having features 2 months from now. What Logos puts out, IMHO, is golden and I'd rather them concentrate on getting it right from the start then giving us something that ends up being a hodge podge of patches and frustration. 4.1 was a pretty big release with lots of new features so I would suspect things to start slowing down.
