It's been awhile since I last posted. Mainly because a few weeks back I encountered the "100+ Books on PrePub Shipping Soon" announcement, and well...somehow the bubble just burst. Months passed with hardly anything coming through, then WHAM! ...a ton of stuff all at once. And the announcement wasn't followed by an apology...just an exclamation point!...as if it was a good thing.
I have trimmed my PrePub list from over $15K to less than $13K in the last few weeks and nearly all of that has been cancelled orders. I expect I will be trimming that by about another $2-5K in the next few weeks as well--same reason. Not that I don't want the titles...I just don't like getting hammered all at once with "take it or leave it" ultimatums. It just doesn't sit well with me...or my wallet.
Ergo, I'm leaving it. There are still a few titles I may pick up here and there (mostly the cheap CP items), but the trance is gone. I skipped the Pillar fill-ins...even though I really don't like having partial sets. I jumped on all the many PrePub individual Bible books collections...but I recently skipped the Daniel collection and the Elisha collection, and so I am about 100% certain to drop all of them. That is probably a couple $K worth right there. Thereoretically, the "Logos commitment" to adding 100's or 1000's of titles per year sounds good. But I personally don't think Logos titles are much of a swell deal once they go off PrePub--and sometimes even PrePub can be pricey. Like I posted a few weeks back, what I really want is for my current collection to link to the rest of my current collection--I want what I HAVE to "work"--and right now it often doesn't. That takes quite a bit of the shine off of the whole experience.
Drinking from a firehose hurts. Drinking from the avalanche of PrePubs feels just as good. I've drunk about all I can stand--unless things somehow improve. Not real sure what that would look like, though.
