It seems that while not desiring to build standard word processor features into the Notes feature, development time is being devoted to building a better PowerPoint.
Just slightly confusing to me...
In my mind, that's not confusing at all...Bob has said that they don't intend for the notes feature to be much more than a "scribble in the margins of your bible" type of tool....and that they aren't going to compete with Word or other real word processing software...
In my mind...there is no issue once that's established...

I guess that I'm looking at it this way:
As a matter of policy the company is not developing features that many are asking for, but yet they are developing software that no one is asking for.
I understand that I'm just looking at it from the outside as an end user, and of course this is just my impression.

I am not sure of my memory Paul, but if I am not mistaken, there had been a survey about that long time ago. The development of that software might be in line with the results of that survey.

There was a survey regarding how people use PowerPoint and Logos together. My guess is that they discovered 1) PowerPoint was not the ideal tool for accomplishing the job in a church setting, which I agree 2)The other software (media shout, etc) was pricey and limiting. Since I don't have a lot of experience with these other resources I cannot speak to their effectiveness in a worship setting. I can only say that I would have difficulty in my church of 40-50 finding someone who would take the time to learn the software.

We use easy worship in our little church (about the size of yours--depending on how you count--we have about 30-35 adults and that many more kids). We like it. However, one of the things that intrigues me is how it will sync/work with Logos--being able to easily/seamlessly (?) integrate my Bibles and quote from books for my sermon presentations. I have asked to "test" it.
Paul, I have had similar aspirations as you to have a more "robust" notes ability. I remember going through my "this is a really quirky/goofy setup" (in Libronix) to a "wait and see what else I can do" attitude in Logos. I realize Bob is not heading in that direction, and have just come to be okay with it. I like being more easily able to export and print now. I would still hope to embed Word or something in a pane, but that will likely not happen. I have worked out a system that is doing fine for me now. And generally, I have found that Logos has developed things that I not only wished for, but some I never thought of, but think are very very awesome! (Clippings, Biblical People/etc., Media find, ctrl F, and all that complicated language stuff I dont know how to use proficiently yet [:P])

Sorry, no new forum software. It is really strange though. We were thinking about totally changing it up, so we ran that survey last week right here on the forums, and we were just as surprised as you to see 100% of the 54,000+ people who took the survey all said that this was the best forum software they had ever seen!
I think this forum software is excellent. Is it a Logos creation or is it a commerically available solution? I'd love to use it on my website.

It's Telligent Community Server (somewhat modified I should think).
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

Ha! Most of us think it is a piece of junk. It functions OK, but there are mysterious delays between posting and seeing your message show up, the search feature is pitiful, the formatting in the editor gets messed up with garbage HTML often, you can't paste links in from elsewhere because they will be transformed into bogus URLs that have community.logos.com at the beginning of them, etc.
Logos has customized the commercial software for their own purposes. They've been able to add features to it that we've requested, e.g., the paging controls at the bottom of a forum to parallel the ones at the top.

Rather ironically, I had to type my previous post twice, because the first time I got a server error, and pressing the 'back' key lost what I'd typed.

I had that experience two or three times in a row yesterday, trying to help a woman who wanted to know how to export verses from L3. I finally gave up. I guess someone answered her. Don't see the unanswered post anywhere. . .

When I suspect that may happen I highlight and copy what I've written. Then I can just paste it if I have to refresh the page

Please let what Bob was talking about be in reference to an Android announcement before October is up. Or maybe an entirely new, multi platform, Mobile LogOS (you know you see what I did there). Which, LogOS, by the way, would be really awesome name spelling if it worked on all Operating Systems. I don't even need a kickback or creative tip of the hat for that. Just keep making great software!

Nope. Here's what he was hinting at: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/24752.aspx

The west coast probably heard my little hopeful bubble burst from over here in Virginia...:(
I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to crush your optimism. It could still be that Logos will announce by the end of October that an Android app is under development, so take heart. BibleTech is taking place in Seattle March 25-26, 2011. I bet that would be a great time to roll out a new Android app. So maybe they'll keep it under wraps until then. But I can't imagine them letting a release of it wait much beyond then. The opportunity is so now!
(This is all speculation. I know nothing about an Android app that might be under development apart from the mysterious hints that have been dropped by Dan Pritchett on Twitter.)

Oh I know, it's all good. I was just hoping, you know, Pastor Appreciate Month + Logos = Droidober...I tried to hard on that one. Logos has done some cool stuff in the past for Pastor Appreciation Month geared specifically for those serving in the local church.
Dan's hints (all via Twitter) plus what Bob has written on the forums (about Droid and the current development of the next version of the mobile OS) and what has "reportedly" been said at Camp Logos (it's under development, that's all we know). So it has been unofficially announced as underdevelopment. It's just a question as to when it will release. I think it would only make sense, giving how L4 was developed that LogOS (I'm sticking with that name!) not develop a separate OS for Droid but create the next version simultaneously with the iPhone version and any other they may be doing. The only problem with this thought, is that mobile technology (cell phone and the upcoming onslaught of tablets) seems to be evolving at a much faster pace than desktop/laptop. Time is of the essence here...but I am off topic at this point so
BRING ON THE NEW SITE LOOKS GREAT!!!
