Can I turn off the information and text comparison windows?

This feature is useful, at times, but I don't need it to operate everytime I reference a passage. Is it possible to make this an option? Thanks!

From the sounds of it you want to set the follow option to "None." See below. You can also link it to a specific option. If you want it only occasionally for one or two verses hover over the verse you want to see in different translations and press Alt + ` (the character above Esc on most keyboards). highlight a couple verse and press it to see both verses in Text comparison.

Thanks for your respons Phillip but here's my dilemma below:

I'd like to have the option to choose whether or not these windows are displayed after a search. Right now any reference from the home page and PG displays these two windows automatically. I tried your option but that doesn't seem to remedy the problem.

    James,

These two windows were added in Beta 5 for all passage guides / exegetical guides run from the home page. I asked twice why these were introduced as they appear to me of no value when a passage guide is first run. I received no response.

I now run passage guides purely from the guides menu.

Yes, I remember the addition of this feature with the beta 5 release. I recall wondering why the addition? I might have missed something but I didn't recall any requests for this featuure. -- not that Logos needs my permission to do so. I just don't remember it being an issue for users. The feature offers useful information but I don't need the information to support my regular use of Logos. It would be nice if beta 6 gives us an oprion to make this feature optional.

Personally I don't mind it at all though I prefer to use the text comparision in vertical layout and so if I am going to make serious use of it will open it in a floating window in vertical layout, on second monitor.... information window is handy to have haging about...but all thats because I am familar with the function of this window.. for a new user starting off with this software I dont' think it is at all helpful... as an experienced user if I didn't like these things I would create a layout that didn't include them..but for now I am trying things as it is presented to me in the software but appreciate where you are coming from Damian and James.  I thinkg having the text comparison there is greater value I think when using the guide on a verse by verse basis rather than a range of verses so I would have no complaints about it being taken away in beta 6 .... I think Logos is just trying to showcase all the features...but sometimes the...Look at me! approach can be too much.

My guess, which I like to give though its rarely based on any meaningful evidence, is that the rational is "lets put the tools in front of people when they first start out so they know they are there later. Personally, I would never use the "study passage" guide on the homepage to study a passage, but a new person would. My suggestion would be to pull the windows up one at a time the first 5 times a passage is entered into the block, maybe space it by 8-10 seconds. Have a very brief pop-up that describes each section as it "pops up". This way newbies will be able to say, "oh, that could be useful" and be less intimidated. My opinion...FWIW :-)

Philip (sorry about the earlier mispelling, my brother's name is Phillip also but with 2 "l"s instead of one.) both you and Andrew may be correct in that Logos is "showcasing" all the bells and whistles. And that's fine. I would expect them to do so. I'm just concerned that there's not an option to turn it off for those of us that don't require it as a fixed display.

I agree with you James that it should be user settable...
