Grid View for Passage Lists

I love the Grid View on the Search Result set for Bible Search. It makes it easy to compare multiple versions and find particular features in verses, in a way that isn't quite as easy in Compare Versions.

Would it be possible to get the Grid View on Passage Lists? Does something like this already exist and I'm missing it? Choosing Bibles to display from a Collection would also be a good feature.

If you "Save as Passage List" the results of a search in grid view you get something which shows different versions side-by-side. How much does this give you what you are looking for? If the Passage List doesn't have the translations you are interested in then you can add more.

(Interestingly, when I had five translations in the search grid I only ended up with three in the Passage List which was strange!)

Choosing Bibles to display from a Collection would also be a good feature.

This is possible (in both search and passage lists) by selecting a collection from the drop-down menu:

The advantage of Grid View is that with the
tiniest movement of the hand/finger, you can check how a particular verse is
translated. Passage List involves a lot
of scrolling, especially when long passages and over 20 different Bible versions
are involved.

Recently, I was looking for examples of how
different grammatical structures in the Greek had been translated in Colossians 1:21-23. Creating a Passage List for All Bibles (or a
collection of English Bibles) means scrolling up and down and moving my eye
around lots of text, even with such a short passage. However, doing a search on this Passage List
and then hovering over an individual version allows me to focus quickly and
easily on a single verse. I can then
move to a different version with little hand or eye movement, while looking for
a particular interpretation of the verse to illustrate my point. The compact Grid view helps me get an
overview of all versions and move from version to version really easily. So, for example, hovering over GW (God's Word
Translation) gives the following:

This is good, but I have had to rely on all
the verses containing the word "the" in all the versions. (Incidentally, for what I was doing, it was
handy having the Greek translations included.)
Had I chosen a different passage, I couldn't guarantee any particular
word being present, and versions are excluded if they do not contain the chosen
word in at least one of the verses. My
reason for focusing on Passage Lists means that I don't need contiguous verses
and I can choose the verses, so it would be great to have Grid View available
for a Passage List. An alternative would
be to have a search option which shows all selected verses for all translations,
though arguably this isn't really the purpose of search.

Again, this may be possible already, but
searching a passage list for "the" is my best attempt so far. A Grid View button on Passage Lists would be
quicker than saving the Passage List, creating a new search and waiting for the
results, hoping that all verses and versions will be included. The underlying structure may make this easy
to achieve, as the Grid View already exists, or it may require a more
convoluted switch between underlying data structures. Certainly if it's quick and easy, then it
would be a great feature to have.

I think I understand more of what you are trying to do - I don't think this can be done in Passage View but the Grid search view I think does quite a lot of it.

I'm not sure why the 'Paste' and 'Paste from Word' options refused to paste the picture.)

You need to use the "Paste" icon in the forum editor (in red below):

You can do this by using the character "*" as the search string - but this will take a long time on anything other than a small number of verses.

As you can see, I've now managed to add a picture. I'd tried to use the 'Paste' and 'Paste from Word' icons, but these didn't work. You recommended the Paste icon, but highlighted the Insert icon. This is a little more long-winded and involves saving a temp file, but at least it works as you can see.

You're right about using the wildcard. This could replace "the" and would probably give me what I wanted. It feels like a workaround, but the worst thing is that it took so much longer when I ran it on just Colossians 1:21-23. I'd hate to try it on a Passage List of any length.

The image shows that it took over 13 minutes, whereas before it had taken a few seconds. On the plus side, it shows me that I have a lot more Bibles displayed now. However, most of the extra Bibles (if not all) are in foreign languages, so I'll need to restrict myself to English Bibles. Using a Collection of English Bibles still takes over 8 minutes, which is poor considering using "the" took just over 7 seconds.

If this is the best workaround, then I'd still like a quick button on Passage Lists.

I would suggest using a collection of bibles you want to look at and make a string of common words for the search box, such as and,a,the,to,we,you,he. Your search will be much quicker than using the wild card, but depending on your choice of search words you still may not get all versions in your search. If this is something you do often you might want to create a note file with this string of words in it so you could copy it and paste it in the search box.

For anyone who is interested, once you get a string of common words that works, then just save that search to your favorites or short cut bar. Then all you have to do is open it and change the Bible reference and click the go arrow. This seems to be an easy way to view many Bible versions at once but it limited to hovering over them to read them.
