Searching

I have created a collection of bible dictionaries. I want to search for all articles on 'Jeremiah', but not all occurances of 'Jeremiah'. I can't find the right syntax for this. I have tried 'topic:Jeremiah', 'title:Jeremiah' and 'heading:jeremiah', none of which works.

Can anyone help, please?

The quickest way is to type Jeremiah into Guides | Bible Word Study. Look in the Definition section for articles. You can even restrict its search to your collection if you click on Settings in its toolbar (this is invisible until you hover over the bar). This works for essentially bible words ie. not all words.

This works and gives me the result I was looking for. It doesn't feel very intuitive. I don't think I would have worked out how to do it.

Unfortunately, searching for topics in dictionaries is not as intuitive as it ought to be. There are four ways of achieving your goal, each with pros/cons:

Searching your entire library for Jeremiah would have returned many results, but the top section would have been for the topic Jeremiah, and a topic search restricts itself to dictionaries. Not all dictionaries would be included, however, and you can't restrict the search to just one collection.
Typing look up jeremiah in the command bar would open your highest prioritised dictionary to Jeremiah. From there you can:
- Use the parallel resource menu to find other Jeremiah articles (and unlike the other methods, you can restrict the PR menu to just one collection).
- OR use the new tab button (a plus sign) to show a list of Jeremiah articles (use the small right-hand column, not the left-hand column).
Use the Bible Word Study, as already suggested (this doesn't work for words not mentioned in the bible, though).
Use Biblical People. This too shows a list of dictionaries articles. Advantages: It's disambiguated. Disadvantages: Not all dictionaries are covered (same as 1.).

if you are reading in the Bible and come to a name you want to look up in a dictionary right click the name, select the last option on the right, then select "Biblical People" at the top on the left.

I have spent a long time trying to get this to work - now I have several alternative approaches! I am grateful to all who explained this.
