Lack of information on udates: Prime example

Ok people, I think I've said something about this in the past, but this time I am down right frustrated.

So, a couple days ago, I get a notice that L4 is downloading a large update. I patiently wait, but I write down my resources count and my version number. At the end of the update and subsequent restart and later a restart of the machine, there is no resource count difference and no difference in the version number.

Today, just two days later. I get a notice there's an update of something like 50 mb. It downloads, restarts, and is currently indexing. I have no difference in my version, BUT my resource count is two more.

I want to know what it downloaded? I didn't have a pre-pub roll off today. So, what is it? How can I know? And if I can't know, why can't I know?

If you are talking about the "up to 409mb" update of a few days ago; it was the resource update...it's size depends on your resources.

I do have to agree with Wilson here! It is imperative that we know what's being downloaded in our computer without having to dig in our computer files to try to figure it out! I, like many others, I have spent and continue to spend a lot of money to build on Logos 4 for Mac because I believe this is a software with great potential. There's has to be a way for developers to work this out. Please, don't take me wrong. Consider this as a "constructive" criticism. In another note, I would like to thank all the developers of Logos 4 Mac for working so hard to bring this product to what I believe will be an "outstanding" product ... ALL for the glory of God!

Everybody please understand, I try to keep my head cool, after all I understand this is a brand new product. And I try to compel others in the other forums here to also keep a cool head, as well. I completely understand that the whole world wasn't made in a day. But, I think a simple reporting tool in the tools menu could solve this problem.

I love the software, no question about that, just ask my wife (the one of the two of us with the checkbook).

The second download was the SBLGNT and apparatus. We would have announced it, but we've been having technical difficulties.

All that to say, all the information about these updates is available...part of it was simply a later than we planned.

Fantastic! Michael, I hope you can at least sympathize with the issue. Other than Logos, I don't know of any single software company that just downloads updates to a customers hard drive without 1) telling them what is coming down and 2) giving them the option to A la Carte the downloads with a checkbox - sort of what we had with L3 (at least with the menue and checkboxes).

I would just like to see dialog telling me 1) and 2) and then a dialog at the end (a report) telling me what was successful and what, if anything failed. This just seems so standard. When ever I've mentioned this, I've got little to no response from Logos.

All that said, I know you guys have your plates full. I know that sometimes adding one feature, or fixing a bug, will introduce a plethora of problems.

Currently, the Beta version of 4.2 for the PC includes a new Updated field in the Library view. This will make it easier to see which resources were updated in recent downloads. No idea when this will make its way to the Mac, it's still in beta on the PC, but it will help with many of these questions.

One of our devs added the Updated column in Library to our internal 4.2 Mac builds a few days ago. It will make it's debut when we ship our first 4.2 beta.

Observation: Google Chrome has automatic updates without notification. A free anti-virus for Windows displays a dialog box to restart system after downloading updates without notification.

FYI: You're right about Chrome, and I use Chrome by default, but the trick is this, if you want to know what is coming you sign up to the official Chrome blog via RSS and they announce the updates before the suckage downage beginnage.

Windows and Anti-virus: Now, it's not my fault you're on Windows. Really, it's sad. They have support groups for Winders users. Why are you in the Mac forum? This is an elitist forum, therefore I can't understand why we would be polluted by a Windows user's concepts, philosophy, and/or point of view. I've never used AV of any kind. I just don't see a need for it; so I wouldn't have this problem.

Not sad really - running Logos 4 PC 4.2 Beta 3 using Oracle's VirtualBox provides quick way to compare and contrast Logos 4 Mac and PC beta versions. Currently, PC version can do few more things than Mac - amazed by Logos 4 cross platform capabilities (including sync'd items). I've never used AV of any kind. I just don't see a need for it; so I wouldn't have this problem.

It's really a shame that a life with Windows has traumatized you to the point of keeping you paranoid on these issues.

I actually do a scan once a month with a free piece of software, which I can't remember the name of to save my life.

I don't use Flash for a couple of reasons: 1) virus mess 2) performance. I watch YouTube with HTML5.

Anyway, even when I used Windows (which is the subject of the other forum here, btw) I never used AV until MS came out with their free AV solution, which is unobtrusive.

Here's the trick with the attitude you may be detecting from me. It is very difficult for people who don't have a Mac to fully comment on what is going on in our machines when they don't have a machine of "like faith." Now, that being said, you can have all the emulators for OSX you want, but it is still different from running the machine; especially if you ever never owned one.

The effect of using an emulator or dual boot or whatever is quite simple, you seem to want to influence me, talk me into using this or that piece of software, but all based on your Windows experience. That isn't acceptable to me. I've never owned a Linux box, but I have installed the OS, done this and that with Linux; but I would never even start to think I could make a suggestion for a Linux user.

Finally, I just don't have patience with people who are afraid or have some sort of a complex and won't share their name on a forum. You know this isn't a WarCraft, this is Logos.

Also, don't think that you're going to change me. I am a very pragmatic person and I never change, not even for my wife. I suggest we just move on after this.

Apparently, you are not only rude, you are also non-observant. KS4J owns a Mac and is one of the most helpful posters on the L4 Mac Forum. If you don't want anyone to assist you, keep insulting those who try.

Apple only licenses Mac OS X to run on Apple hardware. Only Mac OS X Server version can be licensed for virtual use on Apple hardware.

Microsoft licenses some Windows versions for virtual machine use.

Currently, intel Mac offers most versatile computer platform - can run Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, and other open source distributions. In fact, Mac OS X is based on a BSD derivative, Darwin, available at http://www.opensource.apple.com/

Couple Mac trivia questions:

1) What is Fat about a Fat Mac ?

2) What's molded on the inside of a Mac Plus case ? (have seen several times - usually when replacing PRAM battery)
