I can't download the custom toolbar to import my notes etc

Every time I try to download the custom toolbar all I get is a page with this on it:

"the XML file does not appear to have any style information associate with it. The document tree is shown below.

There's nothing else. I don't want to lose all my notes and sermons and everything else I've spent years working on, so how do I get them form Logos 3 to Logos 4? I would have thought this would be automatic, so I'm disappointed that it's not. I'm also a little worried because when I did a search here to find out how to get my notes into Logos 4, all I came up with were bug reports, errors and problems and some people saying how their notes were all messed up when they finally were able to import them. Frankly I'm scared of this thing messing up all of my notes and everything now.

I'm not sure what other info you might need. I have Logos 3.0g and upgraded to Logos 4. I use windows XP and have FireFox as my browser. Please help me get all my notes, sermons etc imported into Logos 4 without them being corrupted. Thank you,

Don't panic. I can't help you with this error, but someone else may be able to do so.

You won't lose your notes. Even when converting them for Logos 4 it leaves an unconverted copy on your hard drive. Back them up separately before conversion if you are concerned.

The conversion was at one time rougher than it is now. It is pretty good. I lost a few hyperlinks but that was all.

If someone can help you with the pre-converter tool item, you will be up and running in short time and will be able to judge how well the conversion process goes.

I believe you can import everything else other than notes directly from Libronix. There is no toolbar item needed to prepare them ahead of time.

Thanks! I will back them up just to be safe. Part of the reason I'm worried is because I don't take "short little notes" lol, my "notes" are quite long and involved in many cases, so I'd really hate to lose them. There were no instructions that I could find anywhere about how to import anything into Logos 4 except what I found on the notes. So I'm not sure how to import any of my other things or if it does it all at once or what...I don't even know where to look for it.

Ok, I finally figured out how to get the toolbar downloaded and did so. Evidently it doesn't work for firefox but will on Internet Explorer. So now I've downloaded it to the right file location, but when I open Logos 3, it's not there...at least I don't see it. Where is it supposed to be?

Also, leave Logos 3 on your computer until you are 100% sure your notes are safe in L4. Also, wait until you are 100% comfortable with the new program. They easily exist side-by-side.

I was ready after about 2-3 weeks, and that was in the Beta testing period; we did not have all the features we have now. Then again, I hardly use the notes function. I probably need to learn it.

I love this program but am really disappointed that it doesn't automatically take all your customization, and content with it. I expected it to simply because whenever I've upgraded anything else, it always does, so it simply never occurred to me that it wouldn't. I really think they should say something in that "before you install logos 4 video" or somewhere that you're going to have to do all this manually and from what I gather so far anyway, not everything will be able to be brought over. Such as all the highlighting I'd already done in my bibles...that's all gone now. But so far anyway that's my only gripe. I expected to be able to open it up and play lol not have to put everything back into it first. Oh well, once I'm done I expect I'll know how to use it quite well so that's the plus side. I don't plan on using 3 any longer except to copy stuff over to this one, only because I know the more I use this one the faster I'll get used to it. Thanks for all your help everyone, I really appreciate it! I wish I had time to spend all day playing with it, but I'd better get at least the bills paid today or else!

I used long notes heavily, too, and it took me some time to pick up notes behavior in Logos 4 (some wasn't there right away/just added recently), so here's a quick summary of things you may or may not have already discovered:

- there's a gray bar to the left of a note that allows you to open just it when you have collapsed all notes in the note file and hover your mouse over that note.

- clicking on the color icon next to a note lets you choose a color, but dragging on it lets you rearrange notes.

- Sort is for sorting in biblical order for notes made into Bible text. It will not sort alphabetically.

According to my understanding, Logos 4 was released when it was good enough to deliver some of its improvements. It is still unfinished in a sense, and some features are being added as time passes. http://logos.uservoice.com gives you a way to suggest things, and see what has already been planned/started, etc. (look for the filter link on that site that shows only those with Logos responses).

BTW, as you probably noticed, prayer lists are transferred, too. When viewing the prayer list file, if you have too much detail on a prayer request, click on it to see the whole text. The hover will not wrap paragraphs.

Thanks for that info Joe! I was trying to figure that out just a little bit ago. (the note thing) Knowing what I know now, I'm very glad I didn't get this when it was first released, and really wish I'd waited longer now. Oh well, I know I'm going to love it, once I get over my huff at not having all "my stuff" available lol Thanks for the link too, I've bookmarked it. I don't want to add anything yet until I'm sure I know what I'm talking about. I'd hate to tell them to get something they already have for instance! It won't take me long to get the hang of this though, and then I'll see if I have anything intelligent to add.

Please note: You CAN import highlighting. If you followed another poster's advice and kept your L3 (which I still have after a year!), then your highlighting is available for import!

Just a FYI that some of us are still using L3 because of notes.

Those of us who still use L3 for notes rely heavy on tables and/or graphics, something that notes in L4 does not handle. Some of us are also having delay issues (you can type anywhere between a word and a sentence before the word/sentence appears on the screen.

There are several (okay, a lot of) threads on Logos' forums concerning notes in L4, if you are having issues with notes, you might want to check out the forums to see how other people have 'solved' their issues.

Yes I too rely on tables and graphics and color etc for my notes and am having a very hard time making my notes work for me the way they used to. I've been through many of the other threads in the other forum on notes and have a new one now about them as I get so frustrated with it. Thank you for taking the time to reply and I apologize again that I didn't see it until now.
