BUG: Learn to Use Hebrew v2 zip files

I have downloaded Hebrew-v2.zip twice and both times the following files will not unzip:

Hebrew09-VerbMoods.mov

Hebrew10-Prepositions.mov

Hebrew11-Alphabet.mov

Each time I receive an error message that says, "Unsupported Compression method for "filename""

All of the other Hebrew files unzipped okay and there was no problem with any of the Greek files.

Since Logos has not made the individual video files separately downloadable, I guess you will need to wait for the DVD to arrive by snail mail.

I had no problem with the display of these three, although Hebrew11-Alphabet.mov has volume level that is about 10% of the rest of the videos! I can't hear it at all and have to crank the volume up to 100% just to barely hear it. No problem with any of the others.

Mine unzipped fine; both greek and hebrew, and all my videos work like they should, and yes...the alphabet #11 is quieter than the rest...not a huge problem for me though

That is also my experience. I opened the Hebrew alphabet video after reading Dominick's post. At first, I did not even notice the volume difference until I opened another video, so for me the volume difference was not a problem.

I downloaded all three files and the Hebrew unzipped just fine, although as everyone pointed out you have to turn up the volume on #11. The Greek file on tools #5 however would not unzip so I skipped it. So now I have to keep my original copy (or figure out if I can move that one chapter file).

Hmmm...

Well, my download problem obviously is not the files themselves since others are successfully downloading them. Tried two different download managers with the same results. Perhaps my ISP is having trouble passing a 4.5 GB file? Will order the DVDs on Monday. Thanx.

Does anyone know why there are 2 Lesson 8 videos in the zip? It looks like only one is used in the menu.

Bingo. Thanks. Can't remember the last time 7-Zip was wasn't able to unzip a compressed file.

WinRAR would not open 9,10, or 11 for me. Once I uninstalled it the Windows default zip program worked fine.Maybe the archive could be made to be compatible with WinRAR?

Others have reported that Stuffit Expander is able to unzip all the files with no problem. But Logos should have used a zip algorithm that was more widely compatible with unzip tools. [^o)]

Be sure you have the latest version of your unzip utility. WinZip folks, the people who own the rights to the ZIP format, have changed the format in the last couple of years. If you google this on the Internet you will find issues of incompatibility between zip tools and ZIP formatted files. Unfortunately, ZIP is not what ZIP used to be...[^o)]

I own/use WinZip and was not able to unzip the Hebrew files in question.

Yes, and this latest version doesn't change the zip algorithm, as far as I know. Also this latest version was only released some time in the last month or so. It's not likely that Logos would be using a new proprietary zip algorithm that would require this upgrade.

You may have to try differing un-zip software.

Lots of complaints about this.

Lots of disagreements whether it is "Logos" fault or that of "zipping" software.

Yes, I have the same problem. I used Winzip 15, StuffIt Expander and a load of other unzippers, but without success. I sent an SOS to Logos, but they just told me to keep on downloading and trying. They claimed to have updated the zip file, after which it stops downloading after appr. 150 MB. I am truly flabbergasted at the way Logos, which produces such excellent software, fails to be able to handle such simple and straightforward issues as file zipping. In fact, they should never have made the mistake of putting multigigabyte for download in the first place. If they had put each mov-file as a separate zip, it would be much more reliable. Now it takes a whole night to download, only to notice in the morning, that it went wrong once more, and again we lose 24 hours of valuable learning time. Also Logos refrains from sending the DVD's immediately.

Logos did not announce the possibility of the download, it was discovered by one of the users and posted on this forum. I imagine the DVD's had to be copied by a company outside Logos which takes time. Also my experience was that the first set of DVDs were usable.
