Full screen reading mode

The full screen reading mode is my preferred mode for reading resources on L4 now. Here are a few questions?

1. I do not touch program settings. But sometimes, full screen reading mode fills the entire screen but some other times it is centered but not filling up the entire screen. It occupies less than half of the screen. When the fullscreen reading mode does not fill up the screen, I press f11 to get out of the mode and select another resource to go into full screen reading mode. Usually, this time it fills up the entire screen. Then, I switch back to the resource that I want to read. Is there a way to have full screen reading mode always to fill up the entire screen? Or is this a known problem?

2. It would be nice to have options to minimize, restore down, or maximize the full screen reading mode. Is there a way to select those options from full screen reading mode?

3. It takes about 3-5 seconds (maybe longer) to switch to and out of the full screen reading mode. Is this normal? Does it take so long on my laptop because of slow graphics card?

It sounds like you have discovered a bug. The best I can suggest is that you enable Diagnostic Logging and Upload your logs the next time this happens.

No, Full screen acts like one step beyond maximize - just as in your web browser. When you maximize you're web browser you still have those controls. but press F11 in your web browser and those controls no longer appear either.

In the beta of course there is a new option for "paged view" which you can use to read multiple columns without using reading mode. There you do have access to maximize etc.

Correct, this is likely a speed issue related t your video card. On my former laptop my times were even longer to the point of not being satisfactory. Now I only notice the switch when I have many things going on in the background.

I've read through the Logs and nothing is jumping out at me.

Let us hope now that someone more skilled at Log reading will take a look and see something.

I notice that the CBV window is open, did you open that before or after the failed attempt to draw the reading window?

The log files that I attached were captured right after I entered F11 and it did not filled the screen. 5460.logos4.log and 7144.logso4indexer.log are them. The copy bible verse window was open before I entered f11 to go into the full screen mode.

I haven't been able to reproduce this behavior. If you're having other screen drawing issues with your graphic card, it's possible this is another symptom. Is this on your laptop screen or an external monitor?

Here is the log when full screen mode worked. It is on my laptop. The graphic card on this laptop is very slow and quirky. But I suspect that it has to do with certain resources. I get that problem more often on kjv 1900.

I was hoping the logs may reveal some information, but it is more than likely due to the hardware you have!

I also had this thing several times. Don't remember what I did though - perhaps I resized Logos windows and/or tried pressing F11 several times like David did, to get the full size.

My hardward is Asus T101MT, tablet PC with Intel GMA 3150 video card (not the best). Windows 7 Home Extended.

I suspect that it has something to do with copy bible verse window. When there are multiple windows open, the full screen reading mode appear to be confused and not working right in certain conditions. I had the problem all day today. I closed the copy bible verse window and it is working now.

It suggests the hardware/memory as open CBV, Text Comparison and Print/Export windows + 5 other application windows are not an issue on my computer.

Try it with another L4 window in place of CBV. What are your computer and graphics card specs?

I had zillion entries in recycle bin. I emptied recycle bin and the system runs considerably faster (I don't know if this makes sense.) Before I emptied recycle bin, I thought that I could reproduce the problem at will. Now, I tried many times but I cannot reproduce the problem. I'll post video capture of the screen if I can reproduce the problem again.

I tried full screen reading mode while Logos is busy indexing. Here is a screen capture showing the sequence of screen changes to full screen mode. This problem happens only when the computer is sluggish.

I'm reporting these to help Logos to look at potential problems on different machines and environment. I don't mind if Logos does not look at this problem and leave it as it is. It does not bother me enough to bother.

A friend's old laptop was very slow drawing windows even without the (slow) CPU being used at 100%. It had 256 MB memory and 32 MB was reserved for the graphics card. I put 1 GB memory in its place and my friend is very happy with the performance!

Thank you for your advice. I believe that I maxed out the RAM on this type of laptop at 2GB with 1.6Ghz dual processor. I am using Gateway MT6705. I have no idea what kind of graphics card and how much memory is reserved for that. Thank you again for your patience and kindness.

You lose about 224 MB to the graphics card, leaving you 1.78 GB of RAM to run Vista & Logos4. The Intel graphics chipset is reputedly not very fast, being a budget 3D chipset, and 3D is important to Logos4/Vista. The Pentium CPU is a budget dual core 1.6 GHz compared to a Core 2 Duo 1.6 GHz. The 120 GB 5400 RPM hard drive may also be a factor, particularly if it has less than 25% free space and needs defragmenting.

My laptop (see below) has a faster graphics card & exhibits the staging shown on your video for Reading View but is acceptably fast whilst not indexing!
