IDEA - Update To Current Snapshot from the Favorites bar

I realize the favorites bar is all about the shortcuts (where I keep shortcuts of my most common layouts). I am one who tends to update the layouts often - it would be cool if I could update by right-clicking on the favorite, instead of going into layouts, finding the right one, and then updating.

What can I say, I like to save clicks.

Even better: how about a single command (which we could drag to the shortcut bar for quick access) that would update the currently open layout to the current snapshot? Then you wouldn't have to find the shortcut of your currently open layout on the shortcut bar and right-click on it. You might easily right-click on the wrong one by mistake and thus wipe out a layout you'd worked hard to create.

Especially since your memory is the only way to know what layout your working with (unless you drag your current layout to the shortcut bar and there is none other).

I seem to remember suggesting precisely this in some other thread a couple of days ago. I also suggested an even easier version: cmd-s (which doesn't seem to do anything in particular at the moment). (I guess that would be ctrl-s on PCs.)

Most of the commands are too verbose already. I'd shorten that to "Update layout to current snapshot"

Yes! Ctrl+S (or Cmd+S) would be the sensible thing, as that saves your current work in most other applications.

As far as the original posters suggestion, when you update to current snapshot the shortcut in favorites is also updated. Just in case someone was wondering.

But cmd-s/ctrl-s is even better. Especially since my shortcut bar is getting rather full, now that layout shortcuts have started working on Mac.

Sometime since this thread was posted 14 years ago, a keyboard shortcut was added to the button in the Layouts menu, and the Update active layout command was added.

You can also type Update Active Layout in the Command Bar and click on the bar to see the dropdown choices. Drag the option under Layouts to the shortcuts area of your main toolbar and drop it there. You can style that shortcut or name it at that point.

However those inputs are rather beside the point .and that might well be perhaps because I should've explained better.

Consider therefore the following:

1. I open a layout that I use.

2. In passing I also open a book that I'm reading from my 'Favourites' ... say I begin at page # 12' and eventually reach page # 112.

3. I now intend to save the new book-mark / Favourite at the new location WITHOUT changing my entire layout by upgrading by saving as 'Active Layout' (for this replaces my exiting layout to the new layout), which I do NOT wish to do? So, what then should I do in order to update the bookmark at ONLY the 'Favourite' panel?

4. This then might necessitate, in my opinion, a single button, call it ... 'Update Active Favourite" in the 'Favourites' link (say under the 'Application' menu) ... which when pressed / clicked, updates the 'Favourites' ... pretty much like the 'Update Active' present on the 'Layouts' panel. I grant that this may be a simple idea ... and that it might be quite difficult to implement for as I have no knowledge of programming the ease of incorporating this idea is not my domain.

BUT THAT MINOR CONVENIENCE (addition of an 'UPDATE ACTIVE' on the FAVOURITE LINK, WILL BE OF GREAT HELP.

1. It will easily then maintain progress of books read and open to the last updated location.

2. It will even aid in navigating to using multiple tabs on a single book quite easily.

But ... perhaps I've not understood your responses to my previous suggestion? If so, apologies and please elaborate further.

In the Favorites tool you will find an Application folder. Inside that is a Quick Links folder (these used to be called Bookmarks). These can be set or updated with a keyboard shortcut (and also loaded with a keyboard shortcut). If I understand correctly, that might be helpful for your use case.
