How combine English and Hebrew?

A very basic and stupid question which I probably ought to have figured out a long time ago:

How do I combine English and Hebrew in the same sentence, in a note or a BWS title or something like that? No matter what I try, I seem to end up with the Hebrew before the English when I want it after, and after when I want it before... I'm sure it's very easy...

Since Hebrew is "right to left" and English is "left to right" I THINK that you have to do all of the English then paste in the hebrew to the left of whatever you need....like this:

English goes here at first.... אבימלך then type this part of the sentence..and then paste the Hebrew after the dots....

If you are PASTING Hebrew into your note, then "cheat" by typing 2-4 blank spaces in the spot you want your Hebrew to go. This will provide a buffer, so to speak, that will keep the Hebrew from messing up your English sentence. Paste into the middle of your string of spaces. You can then delete or backspace any extra, unwanted spaces so that it reads and appears as it should.

Right now I'm trying to name a BWS with a Hebrew lemma before the English, and I just can't get it there! It doesn't matter if I paste the Hebrew before the English words, or after the English words, or in the middle of a number of blank spaces; and it doesn't matter if I type in the English before of after I've pasted the Hebrew. Whatever I do, the Hebrew ends up at the end. Extremely frustrating!

You should be able to type the English, move the cursor to the beginning of the box, then paste the Hebrew. I just tried it and it works fine.

Alternatively, type the Hebrew, press space and type the English.

Should maybe, but I'm not. It ends up at the end in both cases.

This is beginning to look like a Mac bug, rather than just me being stupid. Anyone out there on Mac who can make this work?

I posted a screenshot about spell checking the other day, and when I looked at my own post, lo and behold, there at the bottom of the rightclick menu in the screenshot I see the words "Writing Direction". Using that I can now finally force Logos to put the words in the order I want. I still believe there must be a bug, though, since a) you obviously don't have to use this feature in Windows, and b) there doesn't seem to be much sense in having a 'default' alternative if it can't handle both directions automatically.

How does TextEdit behave in the same scenario? That would help us determine if it's an Apple text handling bug or a Logos bug. I know that Apple doesn't always handle text layout with RTL languages correctly (or easily). The "Writing Direction" seems to point to something Apple related, as we don't have any specific "Writing Direction" menus in Logos 4 Mac, and Apple does have hooks in their text handling widgets for handling text direction: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Cocoa/Reference/ApplicationKit/Classes/NSText_Class/Reference/Reference.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000367-BCICCEGG

The fact that you don't have to do it in Windows may point to Microsoft's better implementation of BiDi text support.

Well, now that you mention it, it does look a bit 'Appley'. I only found it a few days ago (with the help of an L4Win thread...), so I hadn't looked too closely at it. And, yes, I do get a very similar one in TextEdit (except it's in Swedish and in slightly different order), and, although I didn't test extensively, I do seem to get exactly the same results with Hebrew-English sentences there.
