4.2 upgrade taking forever

I've been trying to download the 4.2 upgrade since it first came out on Monday. It takes approx. 4.5 hours to get to 67% then it stops downloading. I have "cleaned" the download manager folder. I have done everything that has been recommended in the past by other forum readers, still nothing works. I've tried to download on my other laptop...same results...only it took over 6 hours to get to 67%. I tried being connected directly to my modem (DSL), actually went slower, and I've tried just being connected to my wireless router...ANY help would be appreciated.

Not a clue, Bill. The download is only about 44 MB as I recall which should go fairly quickly (the larger resource update will come after you update to 4.2). Have you rebooted your modem? Your computer?

    Dave,

I just tried the web update link and it did the same thing that the regular update path was doing...nothing. It did, however, say that a required file could not be downloaded. I'll keep trying one thing or another and hopefully, I'll get it done eventually.

    Hello Dave

I had a somewhat similar problem. Maybe this is of no help but:

    - did you accidentally interrupt the download? I did because I had to log off at church to go home. This was the start of problems for me.

    - I was also stuck downloading (although my download was som e 900MB not the mentioned 44 MB) and, very odd, at the same time Logos reported that it was indexing as if some of the new updated resources already had been added. During this Logos repeatedly kept "not responding" and then coming back again and then "Not responding" again.

    - In Logos I closed all tools and resources by using the command "Close all". Then I closed Logos and stopped the indexing. I discoverd there was still a Logos-process running in the background. I shut this down under the Processes-tab when you click Ctrl-Alt-Del. Then made a complete reboot. After starting Logos again it picked up the interrupted download from where it stalled and it was all downloaded and installed correctly.

Maybe you already did all this. Anyway, hope it gets solved for you.

I just tried the web update link and it did the same thing that the regular update path was doing.

Let's see if it is BITS related (this is for Windows 7/Vista):

    • Click Windows "Start" button
    • Type "services" in the Search bar and then click on "Services" at the top
    • In the list of services, double-click "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" and then click "Properties"
    • In the "Startup Type" list, select "Manual" and click "Apply"
    • Verify that the "Service status" is "Started"; if it is "stopped" click on the "Start" button.

Start a Command Prompt (type "cmd" and select "cmd.exe" as per "services" above) and type bitsadmin /reset

Note: do above from a Windows Administrator account.

    Start L4.

I ended up calling tech support and got sent to tech 2 level and he hooked to my computer remotely and was able to make some changes and did a log of his connection! I think they are having some speractic problems and are trying to pin it down. My desktop and laptop both installed it no problem was on my notebook is where i had problems! So maybe contact tech support and maybe they can find the problem if they get enough information!

Nice try Dave, but it is still in molasses mode...if it is even downloading anything. Thanks for the tip about BITS, though, it may prove to be helpful in the future for some other projects. I'll try to call tech support tomorrow afternoon/local time and see what we can come up with.

After some delays on MY part, I was finally able to talk to Steve in Tech Support. We determined that the problem of my program update had nothing to do with Logos. It was suggested that I contact my local ISP, which I did very quickly, and with their help, I determined that the problem was.......wait for it......wait for it....a bad wireless router...I am now in the process of downloading that huge resource update file. I am currently running Logos 4.2 SR1 on each of my computers. Thanks to Logos Tech Support, my local ISP and the great suggestion here in the forums. I can now SEE what the rest of you were talking about...nice page formatting, etc.

    Case CLOSED!!!! (I hope)...[:D]

A good example of "Don't overlook the obvious!" Seems odd though that you didn't notice problems with other websites or online work. Glad you got the problem resolved.

Here is another oddity about all of this. Once I had the update (while being hardwired to the modem) I reconnected the wireless router and everything downloaded with no problem (the 903 MB resource upgrade) in maybe 15-20 minutes.

I was always able to receive my emails, etc. This was the ONLY update that gave me fits. I had updated Windows, MS Office, WordPerfect, all without any problems. I will be checking on a new wireless router after the holidays. Again, thanks for all your help.
