4.2 beta 2 crash when loading home page
This crash happened when loading the home page. My indexer had previous crashed (report in a separate post), so I'm not sure if this is related. However, upon re-loading Logos the home page worked fine.

I had a rebuild index going when it told me beta 2 was available, so I thought maybe the index was messed up. I ended the indexer process, deleted all the bible index and index files, and ran again. Still crashes. I tried running as administrator. Still crashes. I hit the Ctrl key and signed in to a blank layout (I usually open to Home Page). That worked! But then I clicked the Home page, and it immediately crashed. Something on the Home Page is messed up.

Thanks Dave. Last night I did a rebuild index just to be sure, and went to bed. Tried it this morning, it crashed still. Saw your post, went into the HomePage folder, deleted the folder in there and its contents. Ran it again, it immediately crashes when it tries to bring up the Home Page
Now, there is a HomePage\\2010-12-10 4.2a Beta 2\Xps folder which is empty.
Do you have any other ideas? Mark is your working?

I checked the Logos log, it says it fails to load ....\Logos4.....\HomePage\2010-12-10 4.2a Beta 2\qcska1k0.o4d. That does not exist, the only thing under the 2010-12-10 4.2a Beta 2 folder is an Xps folder which is empty.

Does anyone have any ideas? It still crashes every time the Home page opens. I did a full index rebuild during 4,2a beta 1. I deleted everything in the HomePage folder. Something else is awry...

Success! There must be some sort of bug here, or install error....here is what I did, it starts up fine now, and F5 also works. I copied the HomePage folder from my laptop, which was running 4.2 beta 1, to the desktop HomeFolder which was failing.

I had a similar problem when I installed Beta 1; deleting the indexes and rebuilding the whole thing did the trick.

This is definitely some sort of Home Page/resources problem, I suspect it has to do with the new support to show resources newly updated.
I am working through the problem on my laptop now. Here is what has happened.
1. The desktop is working fine now (original problem report). Restarts, F5, all works fine.
2. I opened laptop (4,2a beta 1) for the first time since yesterday. The first thing it reports is resources to be loaded. This is the update to the Tyndale Commentaries that came out yesterday. When it restarts after this, still on beta 1, I get the home page crash.
3. It then reports an update (beta 2) is ready. So I install it, and restart - home page crash.
4. I copy over the files in HomePage from my desktop - still crashes,
5. I notice there are files not only in HomePage but in HomePage\2010-12-10 4.2a Beta 2. So I copy those as well, plus a fresh copy of those in HomePage - it opens and HomePage displays! But Logos opens up not maximized, when I click to maximize the screen, it crashes.
6. I wipe out HomePage entirely, and start with blank home page using the Ctrl key. All is fine. Close it down. I copy over the HomePage and HomePage\2010-12-10 4.2a Beta 2 files again and restart - it comes up! No crash! But when I maximize the screen, it looks like it generates a new HomePage, and it crashes.
I'll report back if I find more. For now, 1 machine working, one still crippled.

I just remembered I have not rebuilt the indexes per Thomas's thought (which I did last night on my desktop. So I have now opened Logos up with blank home page, after deleting all the index files in BibleIndex and LibraryIndex, and I will let it rebuild all indexes before I try copying over the HomePage files and trying again (later today of course).
So I guess it's a problem with HomePage data AND indexes?

Just hit F5 to try it on my desktop, and now that one is crashing too on the HomePage everytime. I give up, maybe Bradley will have an idea when he checks in to this thread. Help!!

The cause of this crash has been fixed and the fix will be in the next beta. It had occurred a couple of times on my system. As a workaround I found that if I opened Logos to a blank layout, I was able to click on the Home Page without it crashing.

Thanks Melissa, I tried F5 after opening blank before and it didn't work, but I tried again just now with your advice and it did work. Glad the fix was found!

FWIW, this trick does not work on my laptop, it still crashes every time at the moment. I'll just wait for the next beta or open with blank page and do readings and prayers on my other computer (which I dare not close or hit F5 on!!! [:D]) ...

Me neither.
I always open to blank page.
When I then try yo load Home page consistently crashes
I too will wait, am just glad I found this thread and that its not "just me".

Finally! After trying all the suggested solutions... the one below works for me (the loading hourglass will hang for awhile, but seconds later the text appears. you'll probably need to refresh F5 again to display the images. Weren't displaying the first time):

Solution: Run Services.msc. Stop Windows Presentation Foundation Font Cache 3.0.0.0 service. Delete FontCache3.0.0.0.dat in (XP) C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data OR (Vista/Win 7) C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local. Reboot the computer.This problem also manifests itself in a hang on the home page.
Logos 4 will start to open, but the home page never pulls up and the
program freezes; the only way to close it is through Task Manager. The

I don't think this fixes the beta 2 crash. I tried it, no crash, but I just received a resource update of a new resource, and it crashes every time when I bring up the Home Page, whether I start from Ctrl-key blank screen and then bring up the Home Page, or I just start Logos normally with the Home Page showing first. I think it has to do with the first time it tries to build a Home Page with new info about updated resources, since that's a new feature in beta 2.
Anyway it's a moot point because this is fixed in beta 3 (which can not come soon enough as far as I am concerned.....)
