A seminary student needing help...
Ok... I know that there must be a thread already created for something like this, but I can't find it...
I need some advice. I am a seminary student that uses LOGOS constantly; however, there are many of my textbooks that are not offered in LOGOS. They are offered at kindle, nook, and ibooks. I use my iPad for reading but have not found a way to use it for studying my textbooks (I use highlighters and write in my books - thus my love for LOGOS.)
Does anyone have any advice for me? I guess this is more of a question about usability of the iPad for kindle and the like...
Thanks in advance!

Neal,
Kindle does have an app for the ipad and from what I can tell it doesn't currently allow for highlighting or writing, but Amazon has been adding features to each of the apps where you can read your books purchased or downloaded for a kindle. So I would guess if your textbooks are in kindle format, you will eventually have the ability to highlight or make notes on the kindle for ipad app. Here's the good news, if you've already purchased the books through Amazon to read on a kindle, you can use on any of the other possible devices for free.. I personally don't have an ipad, but have a droid, and the kindle android app gets updated fairly regularly, and with the popularity of the ipad, I'm sure Amazon will eventually add notetaking, etc.

Here's an idea, but it might be a little bit impractical.
I sometimes scan my books into my computer and use Adobe Acrobat 9 to OCR the text. That makes it selectable, and when you save it in a PDF format, you can mark it up on the iPad (using certain apps) just like you would in real life, or in Logos.
You'll need a special scanner and a program to OCR the text and save it as a PDF though, as well as the time necessary to do the scanning.
I use Adobe Acrobat 9, as I mentioned, and a Plustek Opticbook 3600 Scanner that's specially made for scanning books.
Its time consuming and initially expensive, but it gets the job done.

The iPad Amazon Kindle app does allow you to highlight and take notes: I do it all the time. Here's hoping that the Logos app will soon allow us to do the same. I find Logos more easily navigable for such things as commentaries and reference books than material in the Kindle format. As far as I'm concerned, the chief shortcoming of Logos for iPad at present is the lack of highlighting and note-taking functionality.
