This program stinks

Every time you try to use this program it updates for hours. If it weren't for the TDNT I would never in my life use this slow program and I have a high speed internet. Compared to Word Search 9 this is a dial up program that updates, updates, updates and you can never use it. LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY LOGOS STINKS!

Welcome Keith. I completely disagree by the way. Perhaps if you be a bit more specific with your issues, one of the fine folks on this forum or a Logos staff member will help you. They have a bad habit of doing that around here.

Keith,
I'm sorry to hear that Logos 4 isn't working well for you. Your experience does not reflect my own but if you are running an older computer it might be better to run version 3, Libronix. You can download it here: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls
Alternatively, if you would care to give us more details about your setup, we might be able to help you make Logos 4 run faster for you. Or, you can turn off updates once Logos has downloaded updates and ignore future updates until you can afford to let Logos update.

Yah I know where you are coming from, I bought Logos (scholar ed)1 year ago I would click search, go down and exercise for 20-30 minutes come back and check out my results (I figured it was searching my whole library 484 books so I didn't think much of it). Then one day I was talking to my pastor in his office and noticed he had Logos also, we were talking and I brought up my long searches and he told me his took about as long as a google search I was very surprised, but he had a new laptop and my cpu was 5-6 years old and could only handle 1 gig of ram.
This past Feb. I went to Sams club and bought a close out desktop package (less than $700) it has 8 gigs of ram, windows 7, Logos works GREAT on there.
But I have to say Logos 4 scholar is the BEST investment I have ever purchased.
Thank you everyone at Logos for keeping us up to date with high tech. power.

Keith, sorry to hear your experience with Logos is not what you expected. I have been using Logos for about 7 years now and am not experiencing the issues you are. But as has been previously stated it you would kindly give us some details on your system and what you are trying to accomplish there are a bunch of great folks on this forum that are a tremendous help.
Everyone I have worked with here and at Logos customer support have been great. Any issues resolved quickly.
Give the folks here on the forum a chance to see if they can assist you, before you throw in the towel.
Will is correct in that older laptops can be sluggish on L4, but fine on L3. I had an older laptop until last Christmas and although I didn't experience to many slowness issues I can see where they could occur. Maybe I just understod the slowness of my system and dealt with it.
Hopefully we can help you and improve your experience.
In Christ,
Ken

Keith, I agree with you that L4 is slow. It gets under my skin that I have to wait a second or two for the program to close a single window. This is one of the reasons why I still use L3, and this is why I would recommend that you try L3. Then in a year to year from now (this is how long that I believe it will take Logos to finished working out the bugs and speed issues of L4), try L4 again.

Other than two points, I don't find L4 particularly slow. Those two points are:
- Initial opening of the program
- Notes. Notes tend to freeze up so that I sometimes have to wait for a minute or two (by the clock). I attribute this to the constant saving of changes which occurs. I realize there might be a danger of losing some material, but I would recommend that saves are made no more than about every 5 minutes.
We have become so addicted to speed that we don't want to be kept waiting even for a fraction of a second. I think we need to develop a little more patience. Perhaps it's my age since I will be 39 on my next birthday. Some who are younger may see things differently. So long as the process is a vast improvement over the time it would take me to walk to the bookshelf, pick the book off the shelf, return to my desk and open the book to the appropriate location, I don't particularly feel like complaining. Add to that the fact that together with the books I already have in print I might not have room for everything.

And that's another thing. I hate having to wait till my birthday to be a year older.

Judging from these quotes, I assume that he dislikes the fact that there have been and will be for the foreseeable future, regular updates to the program and resources. I really don't mind the program updates but must admit that when we have large resource updates come through the pipe it does get a bit frustrating having to wait on the indexing process to complete in order to be able to search and on top of that you eventually have to merge the indexes. Of course this all depends on the capabilities of your computer too. Some computers may only take minutes where others take hours. It sounds as if he has the latter. My desktop is reasonably quick but the laptop that I use in my "down time" at work is much slower. Other programs, such as the one he mentioned do not need nearly the amount of power as Logos does.
As discussed in other threads about resource prices and such, this is not exactly the best program for limited budgets (even though it may be the best) because even a new computer may have to be bought to enjoy the fullness of Logos 4 compared to others programs including Libronix.

If your major complaint is that it updates too much, I would suggest that you go to "Tools | Program Settings" and set "Use Internet" to "No" only changing that when you have time to let it update (You may then need to enter "Update Now" in the in the Command box.
