copying bible verses
I give up; I've tried everything I know how and cannot figure L4 out on this. I have a Christian message board and post all my bible studies there for my members. I don't post to Word or anything else but my site although I will often later save a study to Word for my own use. In L3 I had it set up so that I could simply post the verse or verses I wanted and it worked just fine doing it exactly the way I wanted it to with no problems at all. But with L4, no matter what I do it winds up adding extra blank lines in between the verse I've pasted and whatever I write next. Plus it always indents it, but you can't see the indent until you've clicked "preview post". It's really driving me crazy! Let me add some screen shots I took of the process so you'll see what I'm talking about, then maybe someone here would be kind enough to tell me how to fix this.
Ok this is what it looks like to me when I've first typed and pasted in my verses etc; it looks perfect--at least till I ht preview:
This next shot is what it looks like on the preview screen: (notice the extra blank lines after all verses but the first one--for some reason it doesn't do it to the first one.
after looking at the preview screen if I then scroll down to the actual post, this is what it looks like; notice how the verses (again except the 1st one) are indented and the extra blank lines:
Now if I don't do anything to it except click submit, this is what my post would look like:
Now just so you'll know what I want it to look like here's an example after I've fixed it and posted:
So as you can see it now takes me several extra steps and a lot of extra time to post a study, which is really a pain. What can I do? As I said I've tried changing everything I can think of but nothing stops this from happening. I just tried something else and currently have it set up like this although it's still doing exactly the same thing:
%NoCharFormatting
%NoRedLetter
%NoFootnotes
%NoCitation
=Header<b>[FullPassageRef], [Version], =ForEachVerse [VerseText]=Footer </b>
I'd also like to get a space after the comma after the version but just putting a space there doesn't seem to do anything....
I sure hope someone can help me!

Hmmm.... Some of the CBV oddities are a bit perplexing and this sounds like one I've had to mess with before.
Is there any way you can look at the underlying HTML for what is being copied over (after it's copied?) it almost sounds like it's being wrapped in a <p> tag. I'm not sure why the first would be different.
To get a space after your comma just insert an open and closed tag with a space in it, it won't effect anything. For instance you can wrap your space in an italic tag:
=Header<b>[FullPassageRef], [Version],<i> </i> =ForEachVerse [VerseText]=Footer </b>

I never thought of that for a space, thanks! As far as checking the html, I don't think so... On my board I can change the editor interface so that it will show all the coding, but it's showing BB code not html. When I paste it normally into the message box and then change the editor it shows up like this: (I'm not sure if this will work actually but take my word for it, the only code showing up at all is the code for "bold". I agree though that it does act like it's being wrapped by a paragraph, but what really throws me is why doens't it do it on the very first passage posted or on anything posted from a resource other then the bible?

can anyone help me figure out how to get it to stop adding the extra lines? And maybe even how to make it stop indenting them too?

The only way I know of to get rid of them is to copy them into a word processor, format the results the way you want and then copy/paste to your desired destination.

It looks like it may be at least partly the forum editor's fault (if not completely). They don't handle things well. I've been playing around with it in this editor on the Logos forum, and it shows similar problems. For instance if I paste in a verse twice in a row, it looks ok, but if I preview it (or view the html and click "Update"), there's a blank line that appears before the verses. And that blank line doesn't show up if I just paste the verse in once. I haven't had that problem in any word processor.
I recommend downloading the PureText program (http://www.stevemiller.net/puretext/). It allows you to strip all the formatting from the clipboard text and paste it with one keystroke. It will appear as if you typed it in, so if you had bold already turned on, it will be bold. But there won't be any extra html styles or spans added in that can confuse things.

Thank you both so much for replying! I had considered that it might be my board but that really doesn't make sense because it doesn't do that with anything else nor does it do it with Logos 3. Plus my board is vbulletin which I also paid good money for so knowing that this board which is coded differently also does it makes me think it more likely that it's L4 and not the boards fault. I appreciate the ideas for stripping it and the other program, but what I really want is a way to make this work the way it's supposed to. If this is a bug in L4 then it needs to be fixed; it's not fair to us to pay so much money for a program, especially when the previous version worked just fine and have it not work the way it's supposed to. And if it's not a bug, but is instead the way I've got it set up, then that's even easier, I just need someone to tell me what to do different. I'm a novice at code stuff anyway so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was me... So... unless someone else sees this that has figured it out and can help, I guess I'll have to call customer support and or report this as a bug...(I think that's what it's called) Thank you again for taking the time to reply and try to help me!

Well I guess since no one else has apparently figured out how to make L4 do what you want it to in coping verses that I'll have to call support tomorrow. I was really hoping there would be others like me that post on boards like this mainly that would have already figured out a fix for it...

Cynthia,
I think the problem is that there is no fix on our side.

I'd sure hate to think that, as I know there are a lot of folks like me that use Logos to post on websites like mine and on blogs. Maybe they're all still using L3 though...boy are they going to be upset when/if they switch to L4! I never did call support as I wasn't feeling well but will try and fine time to do so today. Plus to be honest I hate the thought of trying to explain to someone on the phone what's happening instead of just showing them screenshots which is much easier.

You could point them toward the forum and this thread. They will probably be able to pull it up to look at. Or they could remote into your computer and you could show them what's happening.
