Tes, I have followed the recommended guidelines published by Logos on their website: http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq
A: The minimum requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:
- Pentium 4 1 GHz (or AMD equivalent- 1.3 GHz or higher)
- 1 GB RAM (2GB for Windows 7 & Vista)
- Windows XP SP3
- DVD drive
- 12 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library).
- 1024X600 Display
- 256 MB DirectX 9 graphics device
- Internet connection required for activation & updates
The recommended requirements for running Logos 4 on a PC are:
- Core 2 Duo 2 GHz [and the new i-7 quad core processors are amazing]
- 3GB+ RAM
- Windows Vista or Windows 7
- DVD drive
- 1280X1024 display
- 512MB DirectX10 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver [this refers to a dedicated graphics card. It's important]
- 20 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library). [many users specify a faster 7200 rpm drive, or solid state if they can afford it]
- Broadband internet connection

Consider Core i3 processor as a minimum, i5 as better and i7 as best.
Steve Johnson said:3GB+ RAM
Windows Vista or Windows 74 GB minimum with Windows 7 64 bit.
Steve Johnson said:512MB DirectX10 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver [this refers to a dedicated graphics card. It's important]The 512 MB memory (1 GB preferable) needs to be on the graphics card.

That's the space you need for Logos4. A new computer should have at least 250 GB hard drive (500 GB is the standard these days).

Tes,
Go with Dave's recommendations. The general rule is that a computer can never be too fast or have too much storage. You do want to stay away from the bleeding edge models since they demand a premium, but below that get as much computer as you possibly can. Having said that, my old computer (old one, not my new one) only has 750 Mb of RAM yet manages to run L4 even if it is a bit slow. If you get a rocket, you won't be sorry in a few years when it isn't necessary to go out and buy a new one so soon.

Mea Culpa! As my signature indicates, I used the Logos guidelines as a starting point. I purchased my notebook about 6 weeks before the i-series of processors came out in the Dell Precision line. The purchase still exceeded my anticipated budget by several hundred dollars. I am amazed by my friends who have the newer, speedier chips. Tes, listen to Dave and George!

For desktop, forum discussion http://community.logos.com/forums/t/27505.aspx may be helpful.
For laptop, found a website with reviews and mobile comparison charts =>
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Notebook-Laptop-Reviews-and-News.48.0.html
Several 17" laptop models have 2 drive bays - could install SSD for Windows boot and Logos and larger drive for other stuff (including many applications - custom install)
Laptop upgrades typically limited to RAM and Disk drive(s).
Logos is resource intensive - benefits from fast processor, graphics, and disk. Also could look for good gaming computers (games also resource intensive).
Tom's Hardware => http://www.tomshardware.com/ uses games to gauge relative hardware performance.
Keep Smiling [:)]
