Christmas deals
I like value, which is why I own the Portfolio collection. It's one of the reasons my interest was piqued at the new Christmas deals...and I mean "piqued" in both the positive and negative senses. I looked at the Master Collection, because that's the best value. I noticed almost immediately that it's loaded with titles I already own. Yes, many I don't have, but tons I do have.
Conclusion? I won't be getting anything. I'm not about to weed through thousands of titles to determine exactly which ones I have and which I don't. I do see many interesting resources I would like to own in the collection, but I'm not going to pay $2K to get them, especially since I would be double-buying hundreds of other titles.
I have asked for ADD ON collections that I can combine with my Portfolio, ones specifically created to NOT OVERLAP the titles I already have. I'm not going to pay twice for stuff, even if I get the priveledge of buying them at a deep discount--because doing so just reduces the discount I received the first time by half.
Irksome.

David, why not? I actually did this more than once over the past 2 weeks. I was able to find some good deals, educate myself on what I do and don't have already, and figure out what Logos has to offer. I didn't feel like I was "weeding" at all! What irks me is it sounds like you are saying you have too many books and don't care to figure out what you do and don't own currently.
[EDIT] - After pondering this a little more, a proposed solution might be that Logos would create bundled collections gaurunteed not to contain anything in the portfolio collection. The only problem for me would be that I've purchased so many add on resources now I would still have to figure out what I do and do not own to keep from double purchasing. Is there something I'm missing here?

I found the following helpful info on another thread:
"By adding "&unlocked=no" or "&unlocked=yes" to the end of an
Logos.com URL that has the word "search?" in the URL, the page will only
display items that you either own or do not own."This provided a quick and easy way to get only the books I didn't own to display. I already have the Platinum base collection with many add-on packages (for a total of 4800 books). I found that I already owned almost half the books listed in the Master Christmas collection (the page listed the number of entries displayed, so I didn't have to do a manual count). The books that I didn't own were ones that I was never interested in previously (about 95% of the list) or their pre-special prices were too high for my budget. So I was not about to pay $2010 to get the complete package!!!
I then had the page to sort the list of books I didn't own with the highest priced resource first, and quickly found 4 resources that I was interested in the past and put them in my shopping cart. I was sure I already owned two of the books and removed them from my cart once I confirmed I had them in my library. But I was VERY PLEASED to get the other two resources at 50% off - THANK YOU LOGOS for this years Christmas specials!!!
So even if you already have thousands of resources in your library, it is not that difficult to "sift" through the listings from the Christmas specials to determine what you already own. But be advise that the little helpful hint provided above isn't 100% accurate. I did find at least two books I already owned being displayed as if I didn't own them. And the two I bought yesterday does not appear in my list of owned books today (meaning that they are available for me to purchase again - LOL)

Sadly, the &unlocked=no option doesn't work for some of us who have the Platinum collection.

It does work, Josh -- just imperfectly (e.g. resources in collections and sets are not always recognized.)

that's how it started off for me, too (and many of the ones I didn't own, I really didn't care for. The list was filtered by "best selling" But the deeper into the pages I got, the more I didn't own and the more I was interested in. But, alas, it was just window shopping. No extra cash here.
the "unlocked" suggestions above sound interesting and helpful, but haven't tried them.

Everyone obviously has different needs and budget. I went through categories I'm especially interested in for Logos and either found works as part of a larger series that I plan to get or works that I don't find particularly useful for how I use Logos. I appreciate the Christmas deal, but the drastic savings could be obtained only by buying a lot of what I don't want or don't need, and the 50% off books I could use took money away from pre-pubs soon coming for which I have a greater desire.

There's at least 2 of us on this forum, who own the Platinum package, and it flat does not work, period. I'm not saying it works sometimes. Or that it works with an occasional flaw. I'm saying it doesn't work at all.
It shows the same number of results for the Christmas sale (1855) whether we used the unlocked=no tag or not. It's been hashed over pretty well in another thread. As best we could tell, it's some bug with owners of the Platinum package.0 -

Maybe I'll have to look closer... as nearly as I could figure, it filtered 15 pages of index out when I turned on the filter. I THINK it's working...

I just read on another thread that you "recently" purchased your Platinum package. I think the problem is the Logos site does not immediately update itself to reflect your newer purchases. I notice that 2 books that I bought earlier this week does NOT show in the "unlocked" list of books in my account.

That's exactly how I feel. I have already 45% of the books of the Master Collection. This fact combined with the incomplete sets that the Master Collection contains just means that I won't buy it. I also hope that at some point there will be add-on collections that contain complete sets and that minimize overlap.

At first I thought that too, that my purchase was too new. But then another user reported the same problem with a Platinum that he bought in December of 2009. I've emailed support about it and am waiting the remaining 48 hours for a response before I call.
