Received a disk, how do I get resource into my library?

There were no instructions on how to install resources included with the resources.
Each resource had a label directing me to www.Logos.com/serial for instructions on how to enter the serial number. Bad infrormation. That is for activating during installation of Logos 3. I am running Logos 4. I tried the Logos 3 install anyway but it never prompted for the serial number.
I found the Wiki and it told me to run the SCAN command but that only does something if you have activated the resource with the serial number. I tried this, but it never prompted for the serial number and never loaded the resource.
I searched the forums using Google, no answers there either unless you are Mac or installing Logos at the same time or downloading resources.
I have seven disks here, bought and paid for but nothing is usable. I have time now to install this stuff but Monday when support will be open (maybe) I will not have time to do it. Call me very frustrated at the lack of instructions.
QUESTION: I have 7 disks with serial numbers on them and I want to add them to my existing Logos 4 library running under Windows. What is the procedure?

It just occurred to me that since I was buying from Logos, why didn't they enter the serial number into their database so it would synchronize and the scan command would work? Seems kind of an obvious thing to do, so when I get the resource, I can just start using it instead of cursing Logos.

The simplest way is to get in touch with Customer Support after the new year as they will activate the product from the Serial numbers.

Is there anything faster? I have time to install now but my next opportunity will be Monday evening and with 7 of them to do, it will be Tuesday evening before I will have time to use the new resources.

Did you happen to check if the resources were available after the install on Logos 3? The last time this happened to me the resources could be read from Logos 3 for some period, like 30 days, before the activation had to be done. Until support intervened I was not able to transfer the license to Logos 4, but I was able to access on a provisional basis from Logos 3. If that is the case then you could at least read your resources this weekend.

No, it is locked. I tried to unlock it but it wants me to buy it over the Internet or call for an unlock code. I tried my serial number in the unlock code but it is invalid. Any other ideas?

Kitty,
Did you start Logos 3 after you installed each disk? When you do this Logos 3 will prompt you for the serial number. If you do not start Logos 3 you will not be prompted for the serial number.
Here are some detailed instructions I prepared a few years ago:
Step 1: Installing the Libronix 3.0.
- Close all programs and disable anti-virus software.
- Place the CD in the drive.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. Make sure to restart your computer if you are prompted to do so. Leave your installation disc inserted so the installation can continue following the restart.
Installation does not start automatically? Autorun may have been disabled on your computer. Go to Start | Run and type X:\Setup (where X is the letter of the drive in which the installation disc is inserted).
- At the end of the installation of each disk the Logos installer will offer to go to the Internet and check if there are any updated files.
- Leave the last CD in the drive and move to Step 2.
Step 2: Activation and Account Management
After you install the Libronix DLS software you need to complete activation process.
- Double-click the red Libronix icon on your desktop to open the program.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to activate the product.
- If you are connected to the Internet, choose the Internet option to activate the product. Otherwise, enter the Activation Code, or get a printout to mail to Logos.
- To ensure that your license file is up-to-date, allow Libronix to synchronize your licenses with our records. This will also make a secure backup of your licenses on the Libronix server. (This process requires Internet connection.)
- Follow the on-screen prompts to discover resources and copy unlocked books to your hard drive.
If you are installing from a DVD, the resource discovery process may take 10 to 20 minutes. - This step allows you to use your digital library without the disc in the drive.
Step 3: Backup Licenses
Backup your licenses immediately after activating your product(s). This will allow you to restore your licenses in the future in case you do not have Internet access and cannot Synchronize Licenses.
Insert a 3-1/2" floppy disk, CD-R, USB flash drive, or other type of removable media into your computer.
Go to Tools | Library Management | Backup Licenses.
Select the drive containing the media you just inserted. Click Save.
Can't save directly to the media? Save the Libronix Licenses Backup file to the Desktop, then copy it to the media.
Date and label your media, and keep it in a safe place.
The license backup is a record of the books you have purchased or unlocked. Back up your licenses to the same media every time you activate or unlock new items, replacing the previous backup file. Or, save to new media, being sure to label it with the current date. To restore licenses to a second computer or a new installation, insert the media, and click on Tools | Library Management | Restore Licenses. Select the correct drive, highlight the file and click the Open button.

Had a similar problem trying to add new CD resources to Libronix 3 on my new Windows 7 desktop system - could never get it to ask for a serial number to activate. Work around was to install to Libronix 3 on an old laptop running Windows XP, sync licenses than restart Logos 4 on the desktop and Update. Took a few minutes but worked - and saved a call to Customer Service.

This was probably because Win 7 needs 3.0g to work properly. I don't know if that version ever made it onto a disc. Once can download the latest version of Libronix from here: http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/ldls

It is indeed 3.0g on my Windows 7 desktop. This version is included on current/recent CDs.
On my configuration it will do everything EXCEPT ask for a serial number to activate a new CD resource.

Huh, I stand corrected. That's an unfortunate bug!

My understanding was that XP could handle 16 & 32 bit software
But that Windows 7 handles 32 or 64 bit..
Some Libronix 3 older software is (still) of the older 16 bit variety.
that is the stuff that I have to install on my older XP machine (a very slow tower with very little Ram!).
Often I only realize this when that Serial number window will not appear.
What adds confusion is that most of the newer Libronix 3 stuff can be added just fine on a Windows 7 machine.

It isn't so much that there is a difference between what XP and 7 can handle but what the bit-level can do
a 32 bit OS can read 16 and 32 bit programs
a 64 bit OS can read 32 and 64 bit programs.
There was a 64 bit version of XP but it was not widely used. I've successfully installed a 16 bit program on a 32 bit version of Windows 7. Most Win 7 boxes coming out today are 64 bit because 4+ Gigs of ram is common and a 32 bit OS can only handle ~3.5 Gigs of ram.
Both Libronix and Logos 4 are 32 bit programs. Now, I suppose that the Activation routine in Libronix is 16bit and that could be the problem... but this seems unlikely to me. I haven't seen enough information to hazard an educated guess on what the root cause of this bug is.

My issue with Windows 7 is that it has not be asking for serial numbers on recently released Libronix 3 CDs, whereas Vista 64 bit and Win XP 32 bit have.
Yes, there is an additional issue with not being able to add Logos 2 CD serial numbers to Libronix 3 (which in any case uses a different style of activation and a different serial number format), but that, as you alluded, does indeed require a 32 bit XP, Vista, Win 7 (or Win NT or Win 98 SE if you still have such).

Kitty,
In looking at your account, I see that you have not yet called our Customer Support team, so I am guessing that you still need assistance getting the new resources you received discs for activated on your computer. If that is the case, you can email me the Serial Numbers that you need activated and I can activate them for you (my email address is listed below).
Thank you,

Deborah,
I did call customer service today. The next fifteen minutes were spent on hold. They took my serial numbers and activated them. At my request, I asked for and received instructions by email so the installation of the resources could be done later.
I was given instructions for Logos 3. I use Logos 4. These instructions were an embellishment of those posted earlier by Keith Larson. I cannot get the resources to unlock in Logos 3 nor are there any instructions for getting the resources from Logos 3 to Logos 4.
I downloaded Logos 3 so I could follow the Logos 3 instructions expecting the latest and greatest but I got Logos 3.0c whereas Kevin Becker said I need Logos 3.0g.
David Wilson suggested a workaround but the procedure requires obsolete hardware and some procedures that were not completely described.
I would expect that with the serial numbers entered, I should be able to use the Logos 4 command "scan G:" but it does no even start disk rotation.
This is way too complicated, way to confusing, way to much time to spend to do the job, way to few correct instructions and way too much magic to get it to work. The number of posts in this thread should tell you that.
Now I am even more confused than before. I just returned to Logos 4 and half the resources have magically appeared in my library and half of them did not. I did a scan G: on only one disk, so that does not explain it.

If customer service activated them for you they are now licensed in both Logos 3 and Logos 4.
Logos 4 will download the needed licensed books automatically (may take a while depending on how many there are - try closing and restarting a few times)
Libronix/ Logos 3 you will need to manually sync licenses and then let Logos 3 see your CDs to import the files (or manually download them from the ftp site)

Just discovered what is going on. This is such a long thread that I will post it as a separate thread for ease in finding it. The short version goes here:
Once Logos Customer Support enters the serial numbers into their database, synchronization will update the licenses on your Logos 4 computer, then synchronization will discover that you have licenses for which you have no resource and the resource will be downloaded automatically. Don't even bother with trying to load the disks.

Kitty,
I'm glad that Customer Support was able to get everything activated for you and that you are able to access your books. I do apologize for any confusion, though, that occurred while trying to access the resources. Since you said you installed Libronix/Logos 3, did you install the software from the discs you have or from the website? If you installed the software from your discs, they most likely are running an older version of Libronix/Logos 3, which is why it is always best to install Libronix/Logos 3 directly from our website here.
After Customer Support activated the Serial Numbers for you, did make sure you have a strong internet connection and then close Logos 4 and reopen it? When Logos 4 is closed, open Libronix/Logos 3 and go to Tools > Library Management > Synchronize Licenses. After that has completed, reopen Logos 4 and that should cause Logos 4 to recognize that there are new resources to download and start the process of downloading them.
Again, I apologize for any difficulty & confusion this has caused you and I'm glad you're able to access your resources now!
