White Knuckling It. Must...Not...Give...In

Thankfully the Christmas specials all expire at the stroke of midnight PST. I gratefully purchased around 50 books during this sale BUT, the big one eludes me. I am talking about the New International Commentary. I had pre-ordered it on Pre Pub and had to cancel when it came out. And now here it is, close to that price. I am white knuckling it; trying hard not to press the purchase button. I know there is a payment plan but I do not want to go that route. Still, I am having a battle! So I will be thankful when the temptation leaves.
Am I the only one?!

No you are not alone. The NIC is a temptation as is an upgrade. It's probably not the right time for me to even consider it. We just need to be careful to not fall into the trap of thinking we can't serve the Lord without them. I am in favor of getting the best tools one can, but there have been plenty of people that the Lord has used greatly without Logos!

Don't do it! [:)]
Enjoy the blessing of this beautiful sabbath and forget the shopping cart. Blessings will come in their time and you will have all you need.

Back on "Day 12" of the sale, I gave in with a couple hours to go...not thinking that Logos would extend the deadlines as they did last Christmas. Otherwise, I would have waited until tonight before I gave in!!! LOL

I gave in and am enjoying it! Went on a 3 months payment plan, as I couldn't check up on my bank balance before ordering it. (Actually I could have paid up front). I think I shall cancel my order for the EEC, as there are limits to the number of detailed commentaries I need for Bible study and teaching children and the semi literate. And there's always the risk of the books taking me away from the BOOK! Subtracting the price of EEC, NICOT/NT no longer seems so wickedly extravagant!
Otto - enj0y it!

That is one purchase that I have never regretted. Did that help you resist temptation? [;)]

I feel your pain, but being unwaged at present, have managed to resist urge even to look what is on sale, if I dont look, I wont miss it (at least thats the theory)

Another way of dealing with the temptation is to go ahead and buy it. You will never be tempted to buy a second copy. [6]
When you consider 1 Corinthians 7:9 (Yes, I know Paul was speaking of marriage-vs-lust here but the logic holds through) maybe you should put this weakness behind you. [co] [}]
[:-*] Go ahead and buy it. You know you want to. And look at how it is pleasing to the eyes and desirable to make one wise!
I have lots of commentaries and the two I am really happy to have are NIC*T and Word Biblical Commentary. I was shockingly impressed with WBC.

The decision was easy (easier) for me. As my computer is dying a slow and painful death, it was either NICOT/NT or a computer to read what I have. So I went with the computer.
All of December I would find myself adding stuff to my cart, deleting it, adding it, deleting it asking my wife, adding it, making spreadsheets, lying awake at night, dreaming about it...I feel your pain.
DO IT!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had close to $400 in my shopping cart and then reality struck. Final total was under a $100. Gotta save some money for later buys. Can't spend the entire 2011 book buying budget by January 2!

"Budget"? What's a budget? Impulsiveness is the order of the day.

I escaped relatively unscathed. I bought a few Lloyd-Jones titles for 50% off and Berkhof's Systematic Theology for about $110.00.

The question is do you want to resist? If you do, than reading this further won't help.

Actually, the Christmas Collections, the 50%s and the base package discounts all seem to be there still. The 12 days deals are the only ones that are gone.

There's a good reason why the Holy Spirit snuck this one into the Bible:
"Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body." -- Ecc. 12:12 NIV

When I purchased NICOT/NICNT I got the sale price. It was quite a bit higher than my Christmas 2010 rate of $2 per book. But it was cheaper than the Christmas offer the "other" company just emailed me.
I still think NICOT/NICNT and Word Biblical Commentary are both worth the price in digital format. Look at it from the perspective of usefulness to the user rather than what it costs to stamp out a CD.
I spent Christmas with my parents. I had to decide between taking a toll road or spending extra time and gas to avoid the toll. With a car load of kids I was happy to pay the $6 and get there quicker. (Mind you the State of Kansas did nothing to create the road, improve the road or maintain the road any more than they did for the "free" road. I was tolled on I-35)
At least Logos adds to the usefulness of the resource with tagging and speed search capabilities.

My wife is awaiting the companion volume - "Learn How to Speak the King's English Using Logos Bible Software" Apparently it's expected to be the next unofficial video from Mark Barnes [:D]

Heh, me too.steve clark said:Indexing....something that was supposed to happen seldom...but yesterday was my 12th time in a little over a year...Oh the joys
I can't be certain about your case, but in my case the repeated indexing is because I keep hitting that "add to cart" button. Causes the indexer to kick on every time....

A few times for me, but i suspect more for you [:)]
Logos keeps updating resources (which is a good thing), but it causes indexing. Expect this to go on for quiet some time as they keep tweaking the system.
