Made the switch -- no turning back

I am now running Logos4 exclusively on my laptop -- Libronix has been uninstalled -- only book files left behind are PBB files (waiting hopefully for the day these can be read in Logos4).

What made this the right time for me? It became apparent after Logos4.1x and now into 4.2 that we have definitely moved beyond "Beta" stage -- the program is maturing nicely and deserves to be trusted for serious study w/o need for an old familiar crutch to lean on.

Would I ever be tempted to reinstall Libronix -- only for an exceptional book deal that can then be upgraded to version 4.

My $.02 anyway -- your mileage may vary.

(I stopped using L3 soon after L4...L3 is a distant memory now...at least to me it is)

I have to agree that Logos 4 has made great progress, but I will not make the jump to Logos 4 only until I have access to the nearly 1000 Pbb resources I have.  I only have a few more than 2500 books in Logos 4 so I miss the nearly 1000 extra resources in pbb.  I use those sources all the time.  So I am thankful to have Libronix 3.

I  may be misinterpreting what you mean, but if you are saying in case you find a Logos 3 resource that you buy, then you do not have to reinstall Logos 3 in that case - you can call Sales, give them the serial number and it will be activated for Logos 4. If the resources are from a third party, you use the "Scan" command to pull the resources into Logos 4. So no reason to reinstall Logos 3 for that case.

Congrats with uninstalling Logos 3, I look forward to that day! For me it will be once we have:

    (1) PBB support

    (2) Some of the new lectionaries MJ worked on (specifically replacing my daily Catholic lectionary)

I am also looking forward to the SESB 4 upgrade (third party) to support syntax searching in Logos 4, but I think I would probably uninstall Logos 3 if I had #1 and #2 in Logos 4.

The only reasons I have L3 still on my laptop is the sermon file addin and the John Piper Homepage. But otherwise I am very pleased with L4.

Good for you, David.  I love your profile picture!  I only have Logos 3 on my machine because I haven't bothered to remove it.  I should do that soon to free up some space.  I only used it for a few weeks before L4 was announced so I never got attached to it.

I have always just called Logos and read them the code.

I have to be realistic and allow myself a backup to L4 which is Libronix.  Yes, I still need it for PBB's and in the event I have issues that some have with program updates such as indexing issues which would make L4 unusable.  Libronix is my spare tire.  And I am very glad to be able to run them both.

Libronix is also my spare tire. AND I will keep Libronix on my laptops because several of my "older" preacher friends are very comfortable using L3 and don't see the need to upgrade. By having L3 on my computers, I can assist them (in their environment) as needed. I've shown them L4, but most of them haven't bought any resources since they initially bought their Scholars edition of L3. It worked for them then (and they've pretty much "mastered" its use) and it still works for them now and so they aren't interested in learning a completely new program for "the amount of time they have left in fulltime ministry."

Anyway, that is one of the reasons I keep L3 onboard and so I can read PBB and still create my Sermon Files in the addin.

L4 has definitely improved, not only since the private beta in which I participated, but even more recently.  I look forward to continued improvements as well; however, I retain L3 and do use it.  You may find other reasons than those you specified to re-install L3, but that will depend on how you use the program and how rapidly other changes are made.  I do think we will get there -- eventually.

I removed L3 the day I started using L4. L4 is taking longer than I thought to put the sermon file addin back in. So, I have since reinstalled L3 simply to use the sermon file addin. I have no need of L3 other than the sermon file addin. Once L4 has the feature I will never use L3 again.

Kaye, thanks for the nod to the profile picture -- its a few years old now (2005) but is just as relevant today as it was then.
