Tes,
Logos4 already has your Library arranged by type (for the most part)
- Just click the Type column heading, Logos shows you all the types
(see wiki articles: Available Columns in the detailed view, Rearranging Columns in the detailed view, & Using a Column heading to filter your resource list) - Notice the Types, if you click on one of these types Logos4 will expand to show you your books that match that type.
- The type Monograph is a very large Type (contains many books) and is a general Type
You could tag books of this type according to how you would categorize them (see wiki article about tagging: Tagging )
Also someone just a few days ago had a post about organizing their library: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28105.aspx Mark gave some good tips on this in the post.
0 - Just click the Type column heading, Logos shows you all the types
-
If you want to create collections based on the various types in the Logos Library, use this syntax in the collections. Use a new collection for each line of syntax.
type:"Bible Commentary"
type:Encyclopedia
type:"Bible Notes"
type:GrammarPlus any of the other types listed in steve's picture.
Prov. 15:23

You can test a filter like "Type:Bible" by typing it into the "Find" field when you're looking at your library. If you want to create a collection with that filter, select "Collections" under the "Tools" menu. If the collection that comes up is named "Unnamed Collection", you can type in a new name to rename the collection. Then type your filter into the field below "Start with resources matching:". That will give you the same set of resources in that collection (at least as a starting point) as you would have seen in your library when using the same filter.
Hope this helps,
Donnie

Tes,
Let's step through and build a Collection.
1. In the top menu click on Tools.
2. In the drop down menu click on Collections.
Logos will open the Collection Tool in your layout
3. In the Collections tool window, click on New.
4. Click in the name box, then type this name into it: Bible Dictionaries
5. Then click in the Rule box, then type this into it: type:encyclopedia AND subject:bible
Now your collection should look like this, you may have a different number of dictionaries and different books
Now you have a new collection named Bible Dictionaries.
Now let's add your new Collection to your Passage Guide as we study Luke 19:28-40
1. Open your Passage Guide.
2. In the reference box of your Passage Guide, type: Luke 19:28-40 and then press the Enter key.
3. Then click on Add in the Passage Guide's toolbar
4. Then in the drop down menu click on Collections
5. Hover you mouse over the new Collection bar until you see Settings, then click on Settings
6. In the drop down menu find your new Collection Bible Dictionaries and click on it.
7. Now click on the Collections bar to expand it. Notice that you see various Dictionaries which have something to do with your passage.
So now you have organized you library a little bit to help you with the Passage Guide.

Amazing!Steve I am very excited.Today I am busy with my Bible study preparation, but tomorrow or perhaps let in the night ,which is around 6 o'clock PM your time,I am going to start it.I want to arrange all my resources according to what you have done it,it would be very helpful for me ,if you could make a list for me, to type on the Rule box.I have the platinum and plus I have bought many resources, but due to the problem of arrangement I could not use them , like figurative of speech and so on.I want you to give me a new start, really I am very glad ,this is a great contribution.God bless you ,and thank you all.
Blessings in Christ.

Thank you! I am new to Logos and this was one of my two biggest issues that I've been trying to figure out. This solution is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thank You! This is an excellent explanation for amateurs like me still getting to grips with the program after a year. [Y]

Tes,
Before you start doing your whole library, first do the example i have shown when you get time. Then after you have done the example, post a screen shot of the Passage Guide showing the Collection bar expanded here in this post so i can see that you got it right. Then we can proceed in helping you make more collections.

Paul,
Have you found or explored the wiki? There are many step-by-step illustrated instructions on using different parts of Logos4. (see the wiki Table of Contents)

Hi Tes, I'm not Steve, but I noticed that you have put your "Bible dictionaries" collection in a Commentaries section instead of a Collections section in your passage guide. Bible dictionaries are not commentaries, so they are not indexed by Bible references, so the way you did it will not work. Go reread that part of Steve's instructions, as he explains how to do it right.

Tes,
Now for helping you organize more of your library....
i do not have a large library like you, so i cannot tell you exactly how to create your collections. But there are other users which have large libraries and have added collection info on the wiki. So now let's learn how to use the collection info that others have contributed.
This section will describe how collection info is shown in the Example Collection wiki
1. This is a screen shot of the Example Collections wiki page open in my browser.
a. The link to open this wiki page is Example Collections2. Notice the bold text above bulleted areas. This is the Collection name the user had for their collection.
3. The Rule shows the rule that the user had in their rule box.
4. The Manually Included Items shows books that they added in the Collection tool. You would do this when your rule does not find a book, but you want it added to your collection manually.
a. To add these books into your collection, you would open your Library next to the collection tool.
b. Then locate the book that you wanted to manually add to your collection. Then drag it to your collection and drop it in the box + Plus these resources and drop it there
c. After you drop the book, Logos4 shows it in the Plus these resources box and adds it to your collection.
5. The Manually Excluded these items shows what the books that the rules included in the collection, but the user did not want them in their collection.
a. Locate the book in your collection that you want to manually remove.
Then grab it with your mouse and drag it to the Minus these resources box and drop it there.b. Notice that Logos4 removed that book from your collection and it shows up in the Minus these resources box.
6. The Library size shows you how many resources that the user had in their Library.
a. There are comments at the top of the wiki page that describes why these are shown.
b. This is the final number of books in this Collection.
Now let's build a new collection from information on the wiki....
1. In the wiki page of your browser, drag your mouse over the title
Bible Backgrounds to select it.
a. Right click on the selected text, in the pop-up menu click on Copy.
2. Now in your collection tool in Logos4, click on New to create a new collection.
a. Then right in the name box
b. In the pop-up menu click on Paste.
3. Now in the wiki in the browser, use your mouse to drag over the Rule to select it (But NOT the word Rule: ).
a. Then right click on the selected text.
b. Then in the pop-up menu click on Copy.
4. Now in the Logos4 collection tool, right click in the Rule box.
a. In the pop-up menu click on Paste.
5. Now you have a new collection !
Now you can use this collection in your Passage Guide like you did in my earlier example.
Now that you know how to create collections found in the wiki page Example Collections, you can decide which collection that might be useful to you. I would not expect every collection to be useful to you. But there are several collections which will help you inside your Passage Guide.

Should I add them all In " collections/All Resources? If so I have tried to add "Bibles" which I have created, but it did not show up.
Tes, it does not make sense to add a Bibles collection to a Passage Guide. The Passage Guide is for generating a report of all the resources you have which discuss a particular Bible passage. Of course all your Bibles contain that passage you are studying, but they do not discuss it, nor do they have references to it. Whereas other books will refer to Bible passages with references like "John 3:16," you will not see such Scripture reference text within a Bible anywhere.
Could you tell us what you are trying to do by including your Bibles collection in a Passage Guide? Are you trying to make it show you that reference in all the different Bible versions? You can't do that within a Passage Guide, but there are other ways to do it. For a quick method, press F7 when you have a Bible open to a given verse, and it will show you that verse in all your top Bibles. For more control (passage ranges and unlimited number of versions), use the Text Comparison tool.

You are right Rosie, I was not thinking about the subject of the Bible, but simply I was blindly organizing my resources. You are right it doesn't make sence. It was simply on the list and I was following simply the sequence of the list. Now I have arranged all my resources according what is stated in the Wike, but how do I know whether books like figurative of speech and Hard saying of the Bible and others are included?

i don't have the book "hard sayings of the Bible". But you could create a new collection or add the books manually to a collection that you think they should be in.
1. Open your Library next to the collection tool window. Then locate the book in your Library.
2. In the collection tool window click on New.
3. Then name your new collection
Or if you want to add it to an existing Collection, click on Open and open that collection (in this case you would skip steps 2 & 3)
4. In the Library window use your mouse to click and drag the title of the book to Plus these resources box in the collection tool window and drop it there.
5. Now notice that Logos4 shows your book title in the Plus these resources box of the collection window. Also notice that your book appears in your collection list in the collection window.
Repeat step 4 for other books that you want to manually add to your collection.

Now I have two problems:
- As you could see in my screenshot I have two names of Collections ,which are marked by time and date,I want to use the latest one as my standard and delete the second one.How do I do it?
- As you see some resources like Biography in my screenshot they are empty, I don't know ,where the problem is ,I agues perhaps it has no reference for the verse I have typed on the passage box,

Or do you have a better suggestion?

This is a complicated one to explain, but i will give it a try.
Logos4 saves your Passage Guide anytime that you make a change while you are in a given scripture reference. So you apparently have had 2 different Passage Guide layouts with different collection bars in them.To delete the one that you do not want:
1. Open the Passage Guide that you do not want (example: if you do not want the one for December 2010, then click on the blue link
) to open that version of your Passage Guide.
2. Then click on the icon in your Passage Guide to open its menu.
3. In the drop down menu click on Delete this guide.
Tes said:2. As you see some resources like Biography in my screenshot they are empty, I don't know ,where the problem is ,I agues perhaps it has no reference for the verse I have typed on the passage box,
If Logos4 does not find your scripture reference that you are using in the Passage Guide for books in one of your collections, then it will not allow you to expand that collection. Not all books in your collections will always have every scripture reference.

Steve, I have deleted it ,but still I have two passage guides, the one on the left side is the new one ,which I have created, and the one on the right side is ,perhaps the standart passage guide of logos 4.My fear is if I delete the right one ,then I am not going to be able to get it back again, I think It would be even better if I could rename them, in order to be able to know ,which is which ,without wasting time to scroll. What would you advise me ?
Blessings in Christ.
