Hey all,

I was wondering if someone out there could help me with a search syntax. I have already looked over the detailed search page on Wiki and still have a question about searching for a greek phrase. For example, I want to find the phrase ἐγώ εἰμι. I tried greek:ἐγώ WITHIN 1 WORD greek:εἰμι and it was close. I also tried "ἐγώ εἰμι" and greek:"ἐγώ εἰμι" but it returned 0 results. If someone could help, I'd appreciate it.

The easiest way is to highlight a the phrase and then right click and select "Search this resource" for Selection on the right hand side.

You need to be careful, Logos might be using a search range restriction from previous searches, you might want to change it back.

The right hand picture represents the right click search and the left hand pane is a constructed search that used BEFORE syntax instead of WITHIN. Other than the morph search counting results differently they are the same results. (This is a picture from the Windows version, but it should work the same on Mac)

I also tried "ἐγώ εἰμι" and greek:"ἐγώ εἰμι" but it returned 0 results.

    That's weird:

You didn't by any chance happen to put a space after the colon?

I tried greek:ἐγώ WITHIN 1 WORD greek:εἰμι and it was close.

With WITHIN I got 60 results, but with BEFORE I got the same 48 as above (except the words are counted separately, so it looks like twice as many):

48 results,  can you show me where that url is.  I found another search site and found 47 instances of ἐγώ εἰμι.  I would love to know where #48 was.

    Adam,

i did a passage list from your posted verse references

Then I did a search for ego eimi and got the 48 results....

Then I merged the lists using the "difference" option.

I got one remaining passage : Rev 21:6

And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.

    Hi Robert,

Awesome verse.  I will have to include it in my notes.  Thanks. The reason that I did not find it because the text I searched had Rev 21:6 as καὶ εἶπέν μοι, γέγοναν. ἐγώ [εἰμι] τὸ ἄλφα καὶ τὸ ὦ, ἡ ἀρχὴ καὶ τὸ τέλος....

    :)  Adam.

Did you want exactly ἐγώ εἰμι or did you want the two words together regardless of their morphology?  I find 192 hits in 94 verses (I think that's 96 hits since there are two words), but various forms are involved.  I'm more concerned with why you didn't find any.  Did you select the word with the definition (which is the lemma)?  If I don't select the lemma, I get 96 / 48, i.e. 48 hits.  It's puzzling why you wouldn't get any.
