I checked in the app store for "mind mapping" and found several that are free. I installed 'total recall' and it looks fairly good but I haven't done extensive experimentation with it yet.

I like the app, iMindMap Mobile Pro. They indicate that there is an iPad version coming soon. This one is endorsed by Tony Buzan, the inventor of Mind Maps.
