Complete Jewish Bible > links from Jewish NT Commentary do not work

I just downloaded the Complete Jewish Bible. I already had the Jewish NT Commentary. Bible links in the JNTC still return a notice saying I don't have the appropriate resource to open the links (meaning the Jewish NT). This seems kind of hokey.

Does anyone know if this functionality is in the works? If not, I may try to get a refund on the CJB, since I have it in another Bible study application (one that links the JNTC to Bibles without regard to whether I have the JNT). I got the Logos version on pre-pub thinking these and other links would work and also to get it on my ipod Touch -- it still has not showed up there.

The Bible Reference links in JNTC were designed to open your copy of JNT rather than your prefered Bible.
In the CJB they are instead tagged to open your prefered Bible.

Not anything as nice - that's what prioritization is used for, defaults when things need to be displayed.

You could open up JNTC, Complete Jewish Bible, and your default Bible in thirds, and ink them with A. Then when you click on a reference in JNTC it will pop over to your default Bible but the CJB will move to the same place and you will be able to see it on screen.

I am not sure I understand you right but I have my CJB prioritized just for the NT Jewish Commentary (see the picture) and it works well. For the NT reference I get JNT and for the OT reference I get CJB. See the pictures:

So how come when I do this advanced prioritization, do some links still point to JNTC? For example, In Acts 18:18, there is a link to Numbers 6:1-21. That shows CJB if you hover over it. But Matt 5:33-37 in the same paragraph shows JNT when you hover over it...

I think the problem is that JNTC NT references are bind directly to the JNT. When you do not have JNT, it goes with your prioritized Bible. I have both the JNT and CJB and it uses JNT for the NT references even after I prioritize CJB as my #1 Bible and restart JNTC.

It looks to me that it will have to be solved by Logos. They would need to repair the tagging of the NT references in JNTC to whether bind them to the CJB (if present) or leave them open for the resource advanced prioritizing, for those who have CJB, they would do that for both NT and OT references, for those who have just JNT, they would prioritize JNT just for the NT references and leave it open for the OT references to use main prioritized Bible.

It is designed that way because the JNTC is specifically commenting on the way the JNT translates the passage, which can be subtly different from your preferred bible and sufficiently different that there is a disconnect between the JNTC commentary and what your preferred Bible might say (because JNTC deliberately focusses on the Jewishness of the context, of which the translators of your preferred bible might be unaware.).

We already have an issue with file updates for some Nelson packages where version 2 is distinctly different from and a different set than Version 1, but version 2 is considered an update rather than an upgrade..... please, let us keep the default relationship between JNTC and JNT the way it is per the current design.

Yes, you are right. My suggestion would be not to change that connection between the resources, just since the Complete Jewish Bible is including the JNT, it would be more practical to use this, since people would not have to buy JNT if they already own CJB.

Or, am I missing something? Is there any difference between the JNT and the NT part of the CJB?

The Jewish NT Commentary is a third party production which normally comes/came bundled on a CD with the Jewish New Testament to which it links for Bible references. Seems that Logos have recently decided to market them as seperate downloads, which somewhat changes the design concept.

Any so called "fix" will need to consider that most people who already own the Commentary also have the JNT and may not have, want or need the CJB. So switching default references to another resource would "break" the current design, not "fix" it.

It's not a matter of "switching" anything. It's just a matter of teaching Logos that the Complete Jewish Bible includes the Jewish NT, and that it should use whichever one of these it finds (or whichever one is prioritized highest if it finds both).

I agree. I don't want anything to be broken for anyone. I do not have the JNT but I do have CJB, however, so I'd like that combination to work properly without having to jump through too many hoops (including having to buy JNT).

Even if a user did not have either CJB or JNT, the links in JNTC should work to open a Bible. Though the wording would be different, there is enough of the JNT text quoted in the JNTC commentary that a reader would not be totally lost. Some functionality is better than none.

Just curious if there is a good answer, why do any resources, including these, have hard-wired reference links built in? Logos has such a strong design of letting a user pick their own prioritized resources to use, even down to the resource by resource basis using advanced prioritization, it seems like this is a poor design decision. Is this mandated by a publisher, or is there another reason user-flexibility is actually taken away in this case? I am not criticizing, I am interested in learning if there is a good reason for this. Thanks!

The JNT and JNTC were developed as a third party CD under the Libronix 3 system. They were designed and built to work together.
I do not recall the strong design on resource prioritization you refer to being part of Libronix 3.

It would be more productive to have Logos first fix the legacy issue of not being able to import and activate Libronix 3 CD licenses directly into Logos 4, or for that matter a fix for even older Logos 2 CDs and licenses directly into Logos 4 as the forums seems to indicate many more people continue to have trouble with those legacy issues.

You are right, I was referring to a Logos 4 design issue. As the software advanced from version 3 to version 4, it would be great to relax linking that was formerly required but now can be up to user preference.

Actually, since your comment is related to a different problem than the one being discussed in this thread you may want to add your thoughts to either a thread already discussing this issue, or start a new one. There's probably a better chance Logos will see the remark as a unique issue. I apologize if in any way I gave the impression that the subject of this thread was the only problem Logos needs to address, that is obviously not the case.
