What is going on with "Notes" that a note entered duplictes itself over and over, as pictured below? Any suggestions?
FWIW - I never have L4 (or L3) open on two machines at once. I always wait until L4 has finished the "snyc" before it is closed.
Whoa! That sounds like some bug! I've reported a much simpler version of this behavior, but it might be related.
What is going on with "Notes" that a note entered duplictes itself over and over
If imported from L3 did you run them thru the "Prep" script first? Can you reproduce the behaviour by creating Notes directly in L4? What resource?
Some were imported from L3, and prep done before import. Many of these duplications are recent notes exclusive to L4.
I spent a recent weekend removing the replications from the Gospels, just added a note to Mark verse and noted it has now duplicated all the recently prior single entries . . . something is seriously broken in my Notes . . . again, I do not have my laptop and desktop running at the same time, always wait for L4 to finish doing the sync thing . . .
I've thought about just not using the Internet, but then I can't sync with my laptop, which I use away from the office. Any suggestions or "fixes" much appreciated!
Jerry, if you are able to consistently reproduce this behavior, it would help if you could enable diagnostic logging and post your log files from a Logos session where you create some new notes and the note flags get duplicated.

I've never seen notes duplicate while I'm using L4. And, not much help in that some notes seem to have duplicated more than others! I have wondered if that is from "many moons ago" some "import L3 notes" issues . . . I can't say. I just finished "cleansing" the Gospel of Mark. It's in the sync mode right now. I'll specifically look at mark when I reopen the program and see if replication has occurred. Thanks for all the assistance!

Well, if you can't make it happen afresh now, then let's still try to do some diagnostic work with existing messed up books of the Bible before you cleanse them all. It might help Logos track down how your files got into the state they're in.
Could you answer a couple of questions for me:
In one of those places where there are multiple note flags, are the corresponding Notes themselves duplicated in the Notes file? Or if you click on the first and second note flag in one location, do they both jump you to the same Note?
Maybe it would be helpful to get log files from a simple session in which you start with a blank layout, then open one resource that has this problem and click on two of the note flags that are at the same location.
I've noticed that where there might have been multiple notes on a verse, that "set" is duplicated. Here are some examples from Galatians "gone wild"!
Here's one of those "sets" replicated. I've deleted many of them in clean up . . .
Here's just another example of what I find . . .
One more "thought" and I'll quit bugging you . . .
I've noticed as I research, then annotate a verse with a "Note" (often containing both text and a URL link to another resource) that the Sync (when "Use Internet" is active) is (almost) always working! I'm now working with L4 set to not use Internet, then periodically do a Snyc Now command. It's a thought . . . again, much thanks for your assistance!
You're not bugging me. I view part of my role as being to help get info from users to help track down bugs so Logos can fix them.
Did you notice my request above to enable diagnotic logging and generate a log file from a session in which you start with a blank layout, then open one resource that has this problem and click on a couple of the note flags that are at the same location to open the Note file associated with them. Then close Logos and upload the logos4.log that gets generated here to the forum. The links, once again, to help you do all that are http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs.
Thanks, that would be really helpful! Then I'll quit bugging you . . . [:)]
Rosie,
I opened L4, opened my Preferred Bible to a passage with many replications, then opened two notes on attached to one verse, and two notes attached to another verse, with logging running (see attached). Then closed Notes and Bible, waited for "Sync" to complete. Closed L4. Let me know anything I can do to assist.3681.Logos4.log
Rosie, After running the log, I went back to work in L4, deleted one note and notices Sync ran a very long time . . . so, I decided to let it finish, close L4 . . .
Then I opened L4 with loggin on, went to a highly replicated passage, 1Thess5, deleted all the duplications. Sync then ran for another very long time. I did nothing in L4 while it ran. When Sync finished, I closed L4 and am attaching that log file (renamed so it would be the same file as previously submitted). Again, any insights much appreciated.3060.Logos4_jerry.log
Hi Jerry, I've passed a link to this thread on to someone at Logos who can follow up on it. It's beyond my ability to debug what's going on. Thanks for taking the time to get the log files, though. I hope they can get this sorted out for you.
Much thanks . . . on an entirely different note (there are other things in life besides L4!), I noticed your camera. I'm assuming you're a photographer. I used to teach digital imaging, now only consulting "on the side" (www.dasyas.com). Any of your work online?
Jerry,
Do you ever edit notes offline on both computers? Do the computers have different versions of the software installed?
Thanks,Melissa
I "typically" have the desktop and laptop to "Use Internet." Both systems have the same software.
When doing my massive "edits" of replications of notes, L4 has a tendency to crash, so I've set the machine I was working on to NOT Use Internet, do my edits, they Sync all changes, again, always waiting for the Sync to complete before closing the program.

Thank you. I'll submit your log to development. So far I think we've only seen this when a user has two computers with Logos 4 opened and signed into the same Logos user account. Your situation appears to be different, however.
Yes, it's one of my many hats. I have a website (www.rosieperera.com) but haven't fully populated it (the "Nature & Wildlife" section is the only one that has any content). I also have a photo blog (http://spaceforgod.blogspot.com) and a Flickr page (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rosie_perera/sets).
FWIW, I'm trying something different . . . I "cleaned up" two Bible books of replications (books in which I'm not currently working), with "Use Internet" off. Then Sync. Now I'm watching them to see if there are random replications.
For my normal work, which includes frequent annotations with Notes, I'm consistently working with "Use Internet" off, then doing a Sync when finished.
In the past, I've observed that during normal work, again with frequent annotations while doing research, and "Use Internet" on, the Sync is running/stuttering virtually all the time, so, (without any data to substantiate) maybe the Sync is starting/stopping/saving changes/updating so frequently it's replicating numerous notes. Just a thought, again, thanks for any insights.

Development thinks this duplication problem may be due to the same sync issues that affect users with Logos 4 open at the same time on two computers. They are working on another sync strategy for Notes and other documents.
Just an update, if it assists sorting this out . . .
I've "cleaned up" some additional replications of Notes and presently work with Use Internet turned OFF. When work is completed, I update my Layout, then Close All, then Sync Now. To this point, by not allowing L4 its continual updating, I have not encountered the massive replication. It would be nice to have the Internet On so I could note Typos and use the Home Page, but this is definitely better!
I'm hoping to go back through all Notes and delete the replications and now get a clean starting place. Thanks again for all assistance.
Rosie, just wondering if you've run across any news on this note replication issue. I continue to use L4 "without Internet" and only sync after "closing all" and, it's working to prevent note replication. But, I'd love to "Use Internet" for things like the Home Page and noting typos, etc. Thanks . . .

Jerry, I've passed this off to Melissa who responded above with what she knows. Contact her for further inquiries. She should see your posts on this thread now that she's commented on the thread, or you can contact her directly by posting a comment on her forum profile, which should end up in her email inbox.

Much thanks Rosie! I'll look for something Melissa might be able to shed on this . . .

Just working in Exodus this AM and, even with the very limited Sync pattern I'm using, I'm finding some replication of Notes. Not the massive number of duplications per Note as before, but some "doubles" and some "triples" of entries. Any thoughts / suggestions for resolution would be most appreciated.

Hi Jerry, I am going to say that sync has a lot of bugs in its current form. I am in the process of syncing my two computers, and I am getting "new" unnamed note files on my desktop, and the 'old' 'named' note files are now empty. As soon as this process has completed, I will be putting submitting a bug about this. The problem is that it takes two to three weeks of L4 running 22 hours a day to sync everything on my computers when I import my new notes from L3.
We added a "remove duplicate notes" command to 4.2a SR-3 today. Please see my instructions about it at http://community.logos.com/forums/p/27232/232941.aspx#232941
