How can I rid myself of highlightings that weren't manually applied by me?…

It seems to me that they're there based on previous search/word study activity, but I haven't been able to ascertain the rhyme or reason why some things are highlighted and others are not. Anyhoo, I want them gone. I should have asked this question months ago.

Exactly what is highlighted? Have you checked the tri-colour icon of a resource header for Filters, Notes, Plans? Some may be highlighting where you did not expect. Also upload a screen shot.

Yes, I've turned off, then back on again, the two items in the tri-colored menu. This did not alter the highlighting in question any. Like I said, I haven't figured out any rhyme or reason for some text being highlighted. It seems to operate on words that I've specifically studied more so than passages I've searched for.

Michael, search hits remain highlighted in all open resources that you searched in as long as the Search tab where you ran the search from is still open. If you close that Search, or run a different search to eliminate the previous Search results, the highlighted hits will go away.

I just closed my two search windows but the highlights remain. Also, this specific search was probably done two to four weeks back. I've done many searches since that time.

Is it possible you accidentally hit a key while those words were selected a while ago? What happens if you try to selected them now and then press Ctrl+Shift+K (which is the shortcut for remove highlighting)? You said you had not manually applied this highlighting, so it might not work, but I'm just checking.
If that doesn't work, click on the Visual Filters dropdown menu (the three interlocking circles icon) at the top of the resource window, and see if anything there has checkmarks in it:
If so, does turning off any of those checkmarks make any difference?

BTW, I turned those four settings back on after unchecking and the highlighting did NOT reappear.

I still don't know what caused this, though. Like I say, I've done other searches since this one and those words were NOT highlighted.
