Finding "Return to the Lord" in Hebrew?

Does anyone have a suggestion for finding what is translated as "Return to the Lord" (Isaiah 55:7) or "Return to Me" (Isaiah 44:22) so I can read some other occurrences? I don't know Hebrew at all and my search skills of this type are very weak. If not, I will search the word for "return" and weed through but I was hoping to learn something cooler. :-)

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but what I did in the image below is brought up the ESV to Is 55:7, made sure my interlinear info was displaying at the bottom, and I clicked on the word return. At the bottom, I then right clicked, and I had the option of two lemma searches of the Hebrew - one with and one without morphology. The morphology gives you the search results of the word in the same grammar usage as here, which is why there are far fewer results:

Note the more generalized search shows both verses you mentioned, the morph search does not, as the use of return is in two different grammatical constructs.

Is that what you were looking for?

Here's my quick stab at it.

The search string is: <AndersenForbesGenre = Divine Oracle> WITHIN 0 WORD lemma:שׁב:1@V??[IJ]

I noticed that in the two examples you cited the AFAT list them as being in the Divine Oracle Genre. So my search looks for the word "return" as either an imperative or Jussive (grammatically the command or the expression of desire) in that genre.

I can't guarantee that it catches everything, but 28 verses is a lot less than a simple search for "return"

Thanks! I am studying Matthew 3 and the call to repentance by John the Baptist. My study guide pointed out that the Hebrew word shuv in the Old Testament is often translated "return to the Lord". I wanted to test that statement. :-)

You need to construct a Morphology Visual Filter to do this.

Here's how you figure out the syntax for the visual filter

1) open the AFAT and right click on a word. Select the Genre tag on the right side and search this resource.

2) A search window will open, copy that syntax into a morph visual filter

3) Finally, choose whatever markup you want. If you want the style of tags in the blog post you referenced you will need to create Custom Highlighting Palette with text tags for the various Genres.

I missed that because I wasn't searching in AFAT. I see now how to find it there. Do you know if any English bible would have that tagging? I created the filter, tried several Bible versions and got no highlighting so I assume I would have to use the Hebrew text. In some versions there wasn't even a place to turn on visual filters.

I am ten pages behind in my study and it's getting late! :-) I got sidetracked with Logos, which is not unusual. Even sidetracked, I usually pick up good information and new skills so it's not all bad. Today was that kind of day.

I'm not sure why you can't get it to work unless you aren't doing a morph search. I just copied and pasted both of the search strings into a morph search and got the proper results with each.

I think the problem is George was not clear which resource he is using for this search. See attached image, you have to use BHS with Westminster 4.2 for any hits (which many people don't have):

You're correct. I was using Westminster 4.2 which is my standard. An attempt to use AFAT failed. I'll need to redo it for that.
