Transfer Library from one Mac to another (or maybe Windows?)

Dear all,

I just today bought the Scholars Edition. Since my Internet-Connection at home is not very good, I installed the Mac Version at work (we use only Macs here).

Now that all Updates are installed and everything is downloaded Library/Module-Wise, I would like to transfer my books/library to my Mac at home.

And since not all features are implementet on the MacVersion yet, I'd like to install the Windows-Version on my BootCamp Windows and copy the library over there, too.

How would I proceed? Is it sufficent for the Mac-to-Mac-transfer, to just copy the /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Logos - Folder over to my home Mac, copy the /Applications/Logos - App and then everything works?
How to proceed with the Windows-Version? Any way to extract the library files and install them on windows?

As long as only one copy is being used at a time you are free to install it on several machines. When making your additional installations sign in using your logos user name and it should automatically update everything on the new installations. As for sharing identical files in windows and mac on your home computer I am not sure how to do that (or if it is possible). I would love to hear about your experience running Logos on windows and on mac on your same machine. There has been hot debate lately as to which side is working better, most mac users feel windows is faster but I have noticed a few windows users reporting mac being faster. LOGOS is a massive program so I am sure it's not fast on a lot of machines. But native on the same machine should give the best comparison.

I will post my experience on how fast it is natively on Windows 7 (64bit) and MacOS X 10.6.5 (64bit) using the same hardware. (DualCore i3, 8GB RAM)

Since I am the only one using it, there will be only one versions used at a time. Since I have to work, I would not even really use the work-installation, it is merly just to download the 5+ GB I could not download at home.

So my question remains: do you know anything on what files I have to transfer from my Mac at work to my Mac at home? Is it enough just to copy the App from Applications and then copy the Logos-LIbrary-Folder over to the new Mac?

I just copied all my books from my iMac to MacBook using the "Duplicate Logos 4 Mac Installation" and it worked great. Thanks for the info !

I believe the rule is that you can install L4 on as many computers as you personally use. You can run more than one machine at a time, as long as you are the operator. However, if you use more than one at a time, you must exercise care that you do not cause a problem with synching (i.e., duplicate notes)

Here I thought I was being very careful in having both L4 Mac and L4 Windows open at the same time. This morning I just removed about 25 duplicated notes.

You may legally be able to run more than one copy at a time, but it may not be an intelligent thing to do.

I believe you are right but if two copies are reading the same resource at the same time I don't believe it is legal.

Why? If someone is reading something on his MacBook, finds it so interesting that he wants to print it out, and therefore goes over to his Windows desktop to open up the same resource and print it -- that would be illegal? If someone is having a family Bible study, and therefore is having the same resource open on 2-3-4 computers at the same time, so that everyone can see -- that would be illegal?

You own ONE copy of each resource you have in Logos, in a group setting like that you might have slight wiggle room, but it is no different than photocopying a book, one or two pages is permissible for research not the whole book. So technically opening it up on 2 or more computers for use by more than one individual is illegal as photocopying a book. Now I honestly do not think anyone would every prosecute someone for do what you have said, but like going 61 MPH in a 60 MPH zone it is technically illegal.

Observation: using a physical book, typically hard to open to many pages for simultaneous reading (have used finger and bookmarks for quick flipping between many pages). Digitally can open one resource to many pages using Logos 4 on one or more computers. Logos 4 includes resource option "Copy this panel to a new tab" - tabs can be arranged so many pages are visible at same time. Logos licenses resources for one user to access at a time. If husband and wife are sharing a library often opened at same time, then husband and wife should have their own Logos libraries.

Wikipedia has Fair Use page => http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use (including photocopies for research use and multiple copies for classroom use)

Wondering which Application Support folder ? Mac OS X has system and user versions

Logos for Mac uses system level /Library/Application Support/

Logos 4 uses user specific /Users/username/Library/Application Support/

Well, nothing happens.. I guess that I have to fill in something instead of 'path to resources folder', because to me this doesn't really point to a specific folder. I have copied the logos 4 folder to Locations>user>library>application support

Speaking from the PC world, that is correct. The scan is executed the next time you open Logos - at least as I remember it.

For scan command, do suggest using someplace other than /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4 since scan processing will copy resource files within scan path (including folders) to /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/random/ResourceManager/Resources folder along with updating corresponding Logos 4 database files.

silly me.. did another check if I actually copied everything.. turns out that instead of 6.4Gb, I copied 72 Mb. Haha! Small difference. Logos recognized the new folder without asking, but I did have to do the scan <path to resources folder> for it to load the contents of the books. But as far as I can see now, it works! Hallelujah!
