This series currently contains:

  • Peace by Walter Brueggemann

  • Covenant by Steven L. McKenzie
  • Priesthood in Ancient Israel by William R. Millar
  • Salvation by Joel B. Green

by Chalice Press - a series I hope grows

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

You seem to have missed one:

    • Incarnation by Jon L Berquist
Here's a link that should lead to all: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%22Understanding+Biblical+Themes%22&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A%22Understanding+Biblical+Themes%22&ajr=3

Not many reviews on Amazon, so what makes these special?

At the moment I am working on a project that links motifs, themes, images to the lectionary readings. Because the readings themselves imply intertextual interpretation, this seems like a logical step. Gail Ranshaw has done some good work in this area that integrates nicely into planning worship services. This series is the best I know at tracing broad in significant depth without strong doctrinal bias. Unlike several books I looked at, this series covers themes Genesis to Revelation whereas several that I looked at are primarily NT in focus. They are suited for the same type of Bible study class as the Interface series (which I love) but are of more general interest and application ... hence prime candidates for me to build Bible study programs around ... oops, did I just mention a selfish reason for the suggestion?[+o(]

So it comes down to are they fantastic? Not really, but they are solid and fill a gap in Logos and should have broad appeal within the Mainstream Protestant, Anglican, Lutheran and Catholic communities at least.

Guess I'll have to take a look at them some time, if I can find them...
