Help with creating a shortcut

I am presently unable to create shortcuts in Logos 4. I recall reading previously about this being tied to Windows 7 User Account Setting (UAC) being set to Administrator (which mine is). Therefore, I want to change my UAC setting from Administrator to Standard User but this option is greyed out for me and I am unable to change it. Anyone know how to overcome this so that I can create shortcuts in Logos 4?

Have you tried clicking on your picture in windows 7 then "change user account settings?"

The UAC (User Access Control) and your User Account type (admin or standard user) are two different things, and the ability to create shortcuts in L4 is not related to either! The Standard User type is greyed out because you are the only user on the computer, which needs an Admin type to manage Windows tasks like updates.

So what do you mean by shortcuts and what happens when you try to create one? If necessary you can create a log and then upload it - see http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging

If I understand the problem and you are on Windows 7, right click on the icon of Logos that you launch it from, and select properties. You should see an image like this, and then click the Advanced button:

After you click the advanced button, you should see this next screen, and ensure Run as Administrator is unchecked:

The re-run Logos and see if drag and drop works. That's what fixed it for me, I didn't futz around with my account at all as I run as an Admin on my machines always.

There are instructions here (in the WIKI) about creating shortcuts on the task bar.

Which type of shortcut are you trying to create and at which point does the creation fail?

    Richard,

I have scoured the wiki site but it does not help with my problem that I can see. I can create shortcuts from within Logos 4, but if I try to drag anything from outside Logos 4 and place it on the shortcut bar I get a circle with a line through it and nothing happens. It is very frustrating. What am I doing wrong?

    Dominick,

Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it, but mine was already unchecked. I can create shortcuts from within Logos 4 but cannot drag and drop to the shortcut bar from any application outside Logos 4. This is why I believe it is tied to my UAC in Windows 7.
