Shalom?

Im in need of some help! The other day I met with my pastor an he asked me if I wanted to cover the pulpit for him while he is in Mexico on a mission trip. I'm pretty excited to get my feet wet being that this will be my first time preaching to a Sunday congregation. Ive been asked to unpack the meaning of "Shalom" beyond Peace or a greeting. However all the resources I own seem to be very brief. Any suggestions, resources or articles?

I would start with a Bible Word Study: Bible Word Study: שׁלום

Additionally I just ran a global search on Shalom in my Library and the very first hit was from the Holman treasury of key bible words: logosres:hlmnkybblwds;ref=Page.p_135

The second also, I didn't read - was a sermon by Ed Dobson on Shalom 2002 Preacher's Sourcebook Page 8

Bible Word Study => h:shalom (finds 236 translations of שׁלום - with various concentrated usage in Old Testament - could be instructive to compare contextual usage - Psalms, Isaiah, and Jeremiah use shalom a lot.)

Basic search => shalom NEAR peace - finds many articles, including a controversial prayer logosres:1000illsprchtch;ref=Page.p_294;off=711

Yes do what Thomas & KS4J suggests.

Here's one way of thinking about shalom (not sure where it came from): Shalom = "the way things are supposed to be" (i.e., from God's perspective). Test that idea with the research you do, and let us (at least me) know if you can refine, improve, or replace that understanding.

You should, of course, start with HAL under שׁלם then the Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament has an article as well. TDNT also has a section on this under εἰρήνη. I realize that certain views propounded over the media tend to raise some resistence to the idea, but the word has many nuances ranging from eschatological salvation to health, concord with one's fellow man and even PROSPERITY (yep).

Actually only one - the other titles either include a chapter or two by him or just a comment or two supporting the work. Or they are part of a larger collection which must be purchased as a set.
