Fastest way to get Scripture into a word processor?

I would like to know how other users import text i.e., Scriptures or quotes into their sermon documents efficiently.
Over the past 10 years I have created my sermons in WordPerfect and utilize a macro in Logos 2 through Libronix that pulls the Scripture automatically into my WordPerfect document. I typed a Scripture and then execute a macro that automatically puts the Scripture in CBV and copies it into my document. This is an extremely fast way of getting the complete Scripture into my sermon. In this way when I am teaching I do not have to flip pages in the Bible to the text.
Unfortunately, the macro does not work with Microsoft Word, and if I should choose to use it, I do not know of any other efficient way of copying the Scripture into the document other than going out of my document to CBV to type the text in. This seems like an awful waste of time.
Once again how does everybody else do it?

When I develop Sunday School lessons, I highlight what I want to copy, do a crtl-C to copy and then do a ctrl_V and paste it into my MS Word document.

That's the process I find time-consuming. Using CBV you can input the Scripture and it will copy automatically a Word Document. However, the CBV only works for Microsoft products. Certainly, there's got to be a better way!

Jim, I'm not sure if you're asking how to do this more efficiently in Word, or how to do this in WordPerfect.
I'm a die-hard WP user and here's what I do:
For one or two verse insertions I use the CBV in Logos4, but I only copy. I switch to WP and Paste Unformatted (I assigned that function to ALT-v in keyboard settings).
For multiple verses, I fire up L3 and use the macros Dale Durnell put together a while back. In fact I did that today, for a study on the word 'truth' I was doing for a sermons series on the armor of God.
We are expecting that the CBV will eventually handle multiple, non-contiguous verses. We're also hoping that Logos will open up the API on this part of the program enough to let us address the CBV via a WP macro (or VBA).
If you're asking how to do this in Word, you'll have to wait for someone who uses Word to answer your question.

You are referring to exactly the same method I use with libronix. I
too am a die hard WordPerfect user. Dale's macros have been a blessing
to me throughout the years. However, it doesn't appear that they will
work with Logos 4, nor have I been able to get the macro to work in
Windows 7.I was just wondering if anyone else had come up with a
way as slick as Dale's. having to switch applications to cut and paste,
or even go to CBV seems a very time-consuming solution.I pray somebody else has a better way!

But you can still use Libronix with L4 installed. I'm using Libronix on Windows7 and WordPerfect X4. Dale's macros worked beautifully today for me.

Might be better to pray that we can have the opportunity to make better way. Currently there's no known way to address Logos4 from a macro or through VBA to get Bible text. We hope this functionality gets released in the future.
For now, I just open L3 about once a week or so, and do my copy/paste stuff, a few other things, maybe, and I'm good to go. Oh, you don't even have to close L4 to open L3. They can run simultaneously.

Hi Jim,
Microsoft Office already had Smart Tags--automatic recognition of names, places, etc. For Libronix (L3), Logos wrote a Smart Tag for use inside Microsoft Word that automatically recognizes Scripture references & gives a right click. We're still waiting for Smart Tags to make it into L4. If you have a Windos machine & L3, search www.logos.com for Smart Tags & follow the installation instructions... Not sure if they work in Macworld. It's just one of those cooler PC apps. [;)]
Does that help?

I am glad to know the macro works in Windows 7. I got some type of error. I am going to call Corel tomorrow and even if it cost I've got to make it work. It doesn't seem like they are too many different ways to make this process easier. I really think this would be a nice added touch for Logos 4 to make the transfer easier for all of us.
Not sure if the Smart Tags will work for Wordperfect. Anybody know??

I made a macro to do what you are asking...one click and it opens cbv, copies the passage, opens your word processor, and pastes the result....
I used macro maker or something like that due to the fact that I cannot program!
It took me about 2 hrs to figure out how to do it....all in all...it was simple.

Smart Tags don't work for WordPerfect. They are specifically an MS Word feature.
If you can't get any macros to work in Win7, call Corel. For Dale's macros to work make sure you have L3 open and the CBV appears in the system tray. You must use the CBV at least once for the macros to work (remember?).
You may need to upgrade to the latest version of WP to work in Win7. Also, and unrelated to the macro issue, I've found that I have to turn off the enhanced file dialogs for WP to work properly in Win7, at least for the 64bit version (Tools>Settings>File settings> Use enhanced file dialogs).

Richard and Robert, thanks for this information. It is this type of thing I would never think about. I kept getting an error in the macro in Windows 7 64-bit version. I can't wait to try this out on my laptop. I'm glad also to know about macro maker.
I still would like to know what other users do because otherwise if I can't get this macro to work or create a new one, I'm afraid I will have to just learn how to cut and paste.
Thanks again!

Libronix had a feature that placed a link right on the tools panel in word. Any time you wanted Biblical text in a word document you hit that link entered the passage i.e. Jer 30 (would retrieve entire chapter or Jer 30: 4-6 would bring jsut those verses.
I agree with the other poster that it's a time waster for this feature to have been omitted from the UPDATED version which we all had to re-purchase. To find that such convenience in an earlier version was omitted is a shame. It makes me want to ask for my money back.

Debbie, I don't use MSWord, and so don't even know what you're describing, though I haven't heard this specific complaint before.
However, if you ask for help (start a new thread) on how to do what you're wanting in Word, another Word user may be able to point you in the right direction. This thread is quite old, and the Smart Tags feature for Word is implemented again. So it's possible that your issue has been solved, and it's just a matter of knowing how to implement it for your version of Word.

Glad to see some discussion of this issue. I currently run both Libronix and Logos 4. When I want to import a scripture, or several from different points in the bible, I have it placed in the CBV in Libronix that transfers it into either Word Processor (Word or WordPerfect). This is a rapid transfer and allows me to stay focused on my thoughts and whatever the Holy Spirit says versus taking the time to focus on highlighting, copy, paste, or paste special or whateverin necessary to get the document formatted properly. Ofter I spend more time in Libronix than Logos 4 because I still know it better. When there is a similar feature in Logos I will use it as my main study program.
If anybody has any better ideas, still waiting.

I use MS Word 2003 and the Smart Tag feature works very well. The link RIchard provided is the one I followed several months ago to set it up. It's quick and easy.
Blessings,

I agree Bob, I run Word 2010 and Smart Tags are by far the easiest way I have found to include scripture in a document..

Will this "Smart Tag" work on Office 2008 on Mac? Or is this just for "windows"?
Thanks!

I am not sure about the Mac application; but I do not think that has been implemented yet. One of the Mac guys can confirm or correct that assumption.

The Help file for Word 2008 does not know "Smart Tags". Therefore, I assume that this is just one more way in which Mac Office is a crippled version of the Windows version.
Copy Bible Verse (CBV) to Word 2008 from L4 Mac does work very well. Be aware that Word for Mac can not handle Hebrew text, and from reading their forums there seems to be no plans to ever provide this capability in MS Office for Mac. If you need to do Hebrew text on a Mac, you probably need Mellel.

I made a "Copy" icon for my L4 desktop. I just highlight the text, hit the "copy" icon, and paste into my wordprocessor. I use Microsoft Word 2007. I like things quick and simple. I want the text to go exactly where I want it in my document. Seems to work for me.

This is an old discussion, but I found it useful as I didn't know about Smart Tags and I was looking for the functionality of getting bible verses directly in Word more efficiently than pressing Ctrl-Alt-B and using the Logos Copy Bible Verses window. I have succesfully set up Smart Tags on Windows 10 with Logos 7 and Office 2013 64-bit. I needed to:
- Register Smart Tags for 64-bit office using instructions here, and then
- Set it up in Office 2013 using instructions here.
When I tried to do the second one I didn't see any option for Logos in the Word, but once I did step 1 to register the smart tags properly it was fixed. Works a treat!

Just use option 1 from above and it should work.

Zscript fans aren’t chiming in. I think that was the purpose of Zscript in WORDsearch, but it didn’t carry over to Logos.
