NIV Interlinear

Hello all,
I have noticed that the Logos 4 instance of people who just bought Logos 4 (in this Month - Jan-2011) the NIV is not Interlinear. What is going on? Is that true that the NIV will not come as Interlinear anymore? Did anybody just purchased Logos 4? Can you confirm if your NIV is Interlinear or not?
Blessings,

Logos is still working on the interlinear for the NIV. If you look at the fine print it will say that it is not finished yet. You will get it when it is finished.
The NIV84 has the New Testament finished and that is it for the NIVs and interlinears right now.

Hello Kavin,
Thanks for your quick response.
Unfortunately it is the very NIV84 that I cannot see the Interlinear in the New Testament. I have it because I bough my Logos 4 over 1 year ago, but some new students who just bough it, they have the NIV84 but it is not interlinear at all. Is this a bug? It is not only one student with this problem, I noticed it in about 4 students Logos 4. All of them just recently bough Logos 4.

Nielsen,
I have thought hard and I cannot remember hearing anyone else have this problem. I checked and the interlinear is working fine in my copy of the NIV84 NT.
If someone was a very recent purchaser of Logos the latest revision of the base packages (KF) only have the NIV2011 in them and as such don't have reverse interlinears yet for the NIV. All I can suggest is that you call tech support and have them look at your computer to see if they can figure it out.

Be sure to check out the wiki page on reverse interlinears. Having followed those steps, can you see your reverse interlinear info, either at the bottom of the tab, or in the text (or both)?
Please note that the NIV84 reverse interlinear is only complete for the New Testament. There is no reverse interlinear for the Old Testament yet.

Richard,
In my machine, that is working fine, I have the NIV1984 with the "Display" button and I can see the interlinear text in the NT. Now in a couple of computers of people who just purchased, or upgraded to Logos 4, the NIV1984 is there, but there is no "Display" button, there is no Morphological data behind the English text, etc.
The NIV1984 is the only NIV that my friends and I have. So, why for those who just bough/updated to Logos 4 does not have the interlinear data on their NIV1984 like I have and many other students?
Thank you for your willingness to help.

First, for some who bought this month, the NIV84 was replaced by the NIV2011. As far as I know, the NIV84 is no longer being sold by Logos, as per an agreement with Zondervan (a huge mistake on Z's part, IMHO). For those who don't have the reverse interlinear make sure that they actually have the NIV84. The most obvious difference is the icon on the tab for the NIV84 is blue background with yellow decoration, and the NIV2011 is yellow background with blue decoration.
If there are folks who genuinely have the 84, but not the reverse interlinear, call or email Logos sales and/or support and find out from them what is going on. We have been assured by Logos, that we who have the NIV84 will be able to continue to use it, and that the reverse interlinear for the NIV84 OT will be finished.

How did these other obtain their copy of the NIV84? Was it a part of a base package or did they buy get it separately? I think the NIV84 interlinear was only offered as a part of the (previous) base packages. If they bought the NIV84 separately, then they wouldn't have a license for the interlinear part.
You'll have to call support to be sure.

What base package do these friends have? Is it the Original Languages one, by any chance? The NIV interlinear is not included in that:

All the students who just bought Logos 4, they got the Scholars package, so, according to what is on Logos website (http://www.logos.com/comparison), they should have NIV Interlinear in their package. So, they got the NIV1984 from this package. I am not really sure who just upgraded and who bough the program for the first time. One student I am sure she did um upgrade from L3 to L4 Scholars.
Just one thing I need to understand at this point: Although some students may not have the NIV Interlinear working (NIV1984), anyway they will get the NIV 2011 Interlinear when Logos has released it. Is that right? Or it means that from Jan-2011 NIV Interlinear will not be sold on base Packages.
Can someone confirm this information please?

Hi Nielsen,
i think this question is answered by a Logos employee here in the reply to a post http://community.logos.com/forums/p/28219/209287.aspx#209287
You might want to skim through the whole post, this is the original post by Logos of the new packages http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28219.aspx

If they just bought Logos Scholar's within the past week, they did not get NIV1984, they got the new NIV 2011. It is titled simply NIV. They can confirm which version it is by looking at the copyright date in the info panel in the Library. The Scholar's package includes the license for the interlinear version of this, but it is not completed yet, so they will get the interlinear part of it automatically for free when that is released.
If they bought it prior to one week ago, then they got the NIV1984. They can do the free base package crossgrade which will give them the NIV 2011, and again they will have to wait until the reverse interlinear is finished before they get that.
If they have the NIV1984, it should have reverse interlinear capability for New Testament only. The Old Testament RI wasn't complete for that yet before the NIV 2011 came out. Logos will complete the OT reverse interlinear for that in the process of bringing it over to the 2011 edition. In the meantime, the RI features will not function in the Old Testament in any NIV.

Rosie,
I understand that, but at least for two students who upgraded from L3 to L4 (Scholars), the title of the NIV is "New Internation Version(1984)." However, the NT is not RI, there is no "Display" button or any Greek morphological data behind the text. This is the only NIV they have. Other students don't have the NIV RI as well, but I don't know if the title displays as (1984). I assume then, from what you all are explaining, that what happened is a kind of bug.
I am happy to know that as soon as NIV 2011 gets ready, they will have a NIV RI. At least we have this information to give to them.
Thank you very much. Blessings,

Ah, the license for the NIV1984 interlinear data was only a part of the "LE" base packages. It was not automatically granted to anyone who had a previous package. And that license is no longer available in the "KF" base packages. It looks like the window for getting the NIV1984 interlinear was just over a year--if one didn't buy the LE package while it was available, then I'm guessing there's no way to get the 1984 interlinear now (unless Logos reconsiders).

It is Zondervan who will have to reconsider. Logos is just honoring the requests of the copyright owner. I am so looking forward to the NIV2011 RI. The coding wheel turns slow sometimes when so much attention to detail and so may links are involved.

I'm referring solely to the interlinear data. I don't believe the interlinear data is owned by Zondervan. It was developed at Logos, so in effect it's like a Logos add-on to the NIV. If a person already owns the NIV1984, Logos could decide to sell (or give) the interlinear data license to them.

What we heard here is that they will finish the reverse interlinear for the NIV84 and use it as a base text for the NIV11. The NIV84 was promised when Logos first sold Logos4 base packages in 2009, so they're obligated to finish it first. No word on when either will be finished.

I purchased Logos this year, and discovered to my chagrin that it did not come with NIV84, so purchased it (that's what we use in our church). I've been a bit slow in digging into Logos, but last couple of days have been getting serious. Going through the tutorials, remembering the advertising, I was trying to use the interlinear. I did the various research, help files, nope. Found this forum. Contacted Logos, and found that those who got 2011 in their Logos purchase won't get the NIV84 interlinear with the purchase of NIV84. Frankly, this seems wrong on a whole lot of levels- I purchased the software expecting from all the advertising to be able to use the interlinear. It seems there was information that it wasn't available somewhere in the reams of stuff to go through, but I sure don't remember it, and I spent a lot of time before I spent the kind of money Logos costs (and I did most of my research before 2011 started shipping). Even more, it would seem that the interlinear would come with the NIV84 purchase- but it doesn't. I'm guessing this is Zondervan's doing, but I have no facts. If it is their doing, it works like a push towards the ESV, just exactly what they want, I'm sure:-) Anyway, glad God is in control as I am frustrated!

You're right. This is a decision outside the control of Logos. It's Zondervan's decision, along with the translation committee.
I agree that it's a foolish decision, reminiscent of the New Coke fiasco in the 80's.I've looked at the NIV2011 and generally find it to be an improvement, in many (but not all) ways.
I am surprised to hear that the NIV84 purchase does not include the reverse interlinear. Have you confirmed that with Logos' staff?
If you are dissatisfied with your purchase, Logos is pretty good about refunding your money.

Yes, I confirmed that it doesn't include the interlinear with Logos staff. I was told I had to wait for the 2011 interlinear (but of course, that doesn't get me the 84 interlinear). As to a refund, the question is- what do I do instead? There are other products, but they don't do what I want. I need the NIV84. As far as I can see, I'm stuck. As to being foolish, at least with the New Coke fiasco, Coke did an enormous amount of market testing (like 100,000 trials). Unfortunately, they didn't talk to the right social psychologists. It appears Zondervan isn't talking to their customers, at least in any reasonable fashion.

Coke may have known that they would end up selling both. It looks like the NIV 84 had saturated the market and they want to get all users to buy the new one to replace their so 80's version. Maybe it is time to switch to Pepsi that is switch to the ESV - it has the interlinear and also has a very good set of study notes available. Zondervan is refusing to let Logos users use the NIV on the ipad/iphone. They are stuck in the get a fee for each platform mode. [reading level of the NIV is 7-8 and the ESV is 10 but the KJV is 12 and in 1900 parents used the KJV as a reading primer (first book) - back then no one had problems reading the only Bible [widely] available - or we could switch to the NCV at level 3 (used to be called the Children's Bible)]
