10GB just to install the program??
Hi.
I was following the instructions for purging and reinstalling, and hit a significant snag: I'd left my resource files on the C:\ drive, out of the way, while uninstalling and reinstalling the Beta. Unfortunately, that leaves me with only about 3GB of drive space remaining. On installation, the beta wants you to have 10GB free, so now I have to move all the books out of the virtual machine's C:\, install the beta and move them back again.
Logos guys, would you please make the program only require the amount of space it actually needs to install?
Thanks.
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
This is actually surprisingly difficult (in the general case), as we don't know how many resources you own until after you have installed it and we have synced your licences. The space required also needs to include the library index and other supporting databases that are created, plus we want to leave a reasonable buffer for the operating system to work in, create temp files, extend the pagefile, etc.. However, it is just an estimate for the beta, and we will tune it to the final size of the Logos 4 packages once they're finalised and we have a better idea of their size.

Hi Bradley.
I'd argue that you shouldn't be worrying about the amount of space needed for resources or for the index - just the space needed for the install.
Keep it simple. Let the space required for books and indices be a post-install issue (the user's problem), even when we're still at a stage in which there's no flexibility about putting resources / indices on other drives / partitions (is that still the case?). I say this partly because there are other variables that you haven't mentioned: the user might be about to add licenses that the sync server currently knows nothing about, uninstall their old Bible Study software and data, freeing up tons of space, or add a new hard disk, making more space available.
Regards,
Nigel

How about a simple install message like:
[quote]Logos Bible Software 4 requires X MB for installation. Additional data files afterward may require up to X MB of free space.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I had the exact same problem: 3GB left, but the installer wouldn't let me install even the plain program...

The space needed for the software is less than 100 MB, but you would be kidding yourself if you did not have at least 10 GB free space because my small library of 440 books takes 7.5 GB. So I would support the installer requiring only 10 GB free space when resources are stored on the same drive. Irrespective of that I have always maintained that L4 should handle "insufficient disk space" with a very visible prompt and allow recovery without restarting when downloading and indexing.

I have 3019 items in my library
Logos4 directory is 16.3 GB (17,509,836,238 bytes), thats smaller that in the early betas where it was over 30GB
Resource folder is 11.2 GB
Therefore rest of install and index 5.1 GB
